Why did my my walking speed suddenly change?
Anyone had their walking speed suddenly slow to about half what it normally is? And before it's mentioned, I am definitely not over my carry capacity.

I had played about 20 hours and everything about movement speed was normal. I saved the game and quit. The next time I fired up the game my walking speed was similar to being over the carry capacity, but I wasn't. I checked my equipment to see if I had picked up anything that speeds up walking, but I hadn't. Then I checked my perks, and I couldn't see anything relevant to walking speed.

I don't think it's mods, because I haven't added any mods since starting this playthrough. I have tried the console to "cheat" my walking speed so it's a bit faster, but it's still weird.

I'm an experienced Fallout 4 player with multiple playthroughs over hundreds of hours, but I've never had this slow walking thing happen before.

Any of you wonderful peeps got an idea on how to resolve this?

Thanks :104:

Happy Hunting :steamsunny:

Didn't you press the walk toggle key by any chance?

No, that's the first thing I checked...
Are you using any armor that's not from the Commonwealth, as in far harbor or nuka world?

Sometimes when you're in it, it changes your stats because "reasons" and they all wind up negatives. I've never really had a solution if that's the case, other than "not using that armor" and 'reverting my stats by console force.' None of that is particularly satisfying.

I haven't progressed as far as any DLC yet, so I have no access to any Nuka World or Far Harbour content. I will however, check to see if armor is the cause by taking everything off and emptying my inventory. I will also use the console to check if there are any items in my inventory that are hidden, as that happens in Skyrim sometimes...

Thanks for the input :104:
Did you have Armor that had mods (vanilla in game mods) that changed AP or walking speed? Did you swap one out for something else?

Did you check Status for Effects (I don't see you mentioning this). Are you playing in Survival and get diseased or TIRED?

Thank you for your suggestions, but I have already checked all my armor stats, and even took it all off to see if it made a difference. My health status is 100% and I'm not playing Survival Mode.

It remains a mystery...
Are you using the super popular "Scrap Everything" mod? It has an issue, where it can lock you out of Sprinting, and probably mess up your movement speed (at least, I had that glitch). I use "Spring Cleaning" instead:
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4640

If not, it may be another issue. It's probably not a vanilla issue, at least, not if your using the Unofficial Patch (and you should be for any Bethesda game). If it's not Fatigue from playing Survival, it's mostly likely one of your mods somehow affecting your mobility.

What mods are you currently using?

Thanks for your reply. I'm not using "Scrap Everything". I did a test by starting a new vanilla game, without any mods, and it didn't seem to make a difference. I'm at a loss to know what could be causing it. Basically my default walk speed is very similar to when you're overloaded, except that I'm not. If I use player.speedmult to increase my walking speed to an acceptable level, then my run speed is like I'm jet propelled. I have set the player.speedmult to 140 (default is 100) and the result is far from perfect, but at least it's kinda playable.

I searched the forums and found quite a few players reporting similar problems with their walking speed, so at least I'm not alone in this issue. It's really weird.

What about your "game speed"? I've heard the game speed is somewhat tied to your FPS; people have stated that they have issues when attempting to run the game over 60 FPS, and the game can certainly be roughly at under 30 FPS?

Other than that, it's probably a glitch tied to something you did in game. When you enter Power Armors, the game "temporarily un-equips" all your armor, then puts it all back on when you exit the Power Armor. This can make for some messy glitches, especially if your using mods that are tied to that interaction.

I have a mod that causes me to un-equip armor when enemies attack me, but the armor re-equips after like 30 seconds of me not taking damage. Yesterday, during this vulnerability time, I jumped in Power Armor to finish my fight, but when I exited the Power Armor, my equipment was locked out for an extended period of time, due to way the mod interacted with the Power Armor attempting to remove pieces that had temporarily been removed, etc. Stuff like this can mess around with your character.

Now that I think about it, I had a situation where I accidentally fell into a vat of lava, but activated God Mode. Falling into the lava is supposed to kill you, and applies a special "physical layer" to your character, to show that you were burned to death. Then, you die with the "death cam" showing you the graphics and all, but then your save normally reloads to where you had the death (and thus before the "lava layer" was applied).

However, because I was invincible, the lava layer was just permanently on me. Since I played in first person most of the time, I never noticed it, but in stealth, I noticed my skeleton was sticking out of my body. This is because of that "lava layer" not interacting nicely with my character model.

I got rid of this affect and fixed my character model skeleton with in the Console:
player.DispelAllSpells

Note: While Fallout doesn't have "magic", the game code refers to certain effects (like Radiation, for example) as "spells". The "lava layer" I mentioned would be another example of a "spell".

This will remove all debuffs/buffs and "temporary" cosmetic layers currently applied to your character. Maybe you had a similar situation as I stated above, and are "stuck" with some kind of invisible debuff that's slowing your character? Save before you try that console command (I don't think it will do anything negative to you, but better safe than sorry).

Console:player.DispelAllSpells

Thanks for your suggestions.

My Fallout 4 fps is capped at 60fps via the Nvidia settings console

I will putting on power armor and take it off again, to see if that helps (edit: it didn't)

I ran the console command DispelAllSpells, but it didn't change anything (I don't think I had any debuffs on my character anyway).

Thanks again :104:

by any chance you switched to walk speed with the toggle key for that by accident?
because your walking speed isnt walking speed, its declared runspeed and is by default active, Caps Toggles it on/off

If you are playing in Survival mode you have simply contracted a bone-breaking fever type disease, you have probably battled creatures from which you contracted the disease. Check in the Pip-boy the active effects at that moment. If you've only played 20 hours you won't find an easy way to craft antibiotics, you don't have any necessary perks. Finds some trader. I advise against playing directly in survival mode in the early hours, already with the ability to create drugs the diseases occur with high frequency, without that possibility it is videoludic masochism. 😷🤒

No, my run toggle key isn't the issue, but thanks anyway...

Thanks. I've never played Survival mode though.
It started for me just now---also wont let me get my weapon, skips 2 on everything in the inventory and every other choice.
