Down below the middle of that page is a section about that feature.
I am also a fan of power armor.
Dont forget to take at least 1 perk rank of "armorer"
Its lets you upgrade not one but 2 steps in armor ( from T45A, which is the common basic T45 you will find in Concorde and the elsewhere in the early game) to T45C.
There is a BIG difference in both the ballistic effectiveness and health points of T45C over T45a.
And dont fret if parts sometimes break during tough firefights.
Approx half of your defense resides in the torso which rarely breaks and even just by itself is better defense than any even late game armor thats not power armor..... plus repairing appendages for T45 only costs 4 steel each.
Explore the northern part of the map some more, before it gets more dangerous down south.
You will find more T45 armor parts (and even armors) for sure, maybe even a spare fusion core or two.
When your level is a bit higher you will be able to trade in looted raiders weapons and other gear for some fusion cores at large traders.

But a T45 thats been step by step upgraded and is in good repair will stay competitive for a long time in the game even when compared to higher mdoels of PA that have not been upgraded.
In return for only slightly higher repair costs (a bit more steel and a single piece of added aluminium) you get a solid improvement in defense values, along with an increase in the part HP that offsets the extra repair materials since it takes more damage for a given part to break.
That's unlike the much bigger jump to T-60 and X-01, where you start needing more specialized materials than steel for repairing every single part.
That is a good point and one I often ponder myself.
but I do not like the look of the t51 helmet.
Its a bit too steampunk for me (even though it is very much original Fallout which matters of course)
And the T45 just seems to take the camoflage paintjobs better than other models of PA, though the T51 is a close second in that regard.
T60 and X-01 always seem to be noticably lower resolution for me with any paintjob at all.
And sometimes even with no paintjob.
What I sometiems do early game is run around the northern map a bit to explore and loot.
(Stay away from the south of the map until you are well equipped and well leveled unless you like save-scumming. :) , )
The northern map mostly has only low level enemies so any fights should not be too painful even w/o power armor, your 10mm handgun is quite sufficient thru all of the early game.
The middle map has stronger enemies and the south the strongest (late game leveled characters only, unless you want to ruin the game via save scumming or exploits, which I know you dont as those really break the immersion into the game world.).
And you conserve whatever fusion core(s) you may have.
Later when you have a couple of fusion cores and fight the same kind of enemies with power armor you will see how much less painful those fights now are.
Also after you took the "armorer" perk consider getting a perk in Science when u have a chance.
This unlocks a couple more neat improvements you can add to your PA.
Of course these addtions take resoruces so loot as many resources as you can and drop them in your red workbench..
Typewriters, deskfans and telephones have gears and screws and things that help you modify power armor (and built other things too), so always be sure to loot those.
Same goes for any adhesives ( ducttape, wponderglue, etc) and any circuitry you may find (those are often shortage items)
Also your power armor itself is a weapon.
I have beaten some fairly high level enemies to death just using the power armor fortified fists (but of coruse u need to close to melee range for this, so some enemies will do u firearms damage while you ar eon your way to close with them. But usually this is managable)
This works best in close quarters, like if u get rushed by ghouls or raiders in a building, you can even use VATS for your power armor fists.
Keep in mind though VATS is power hungry and will drain your fusion cores faster., though it is a lot of fun..
Once up there, look back toward Graygarden and head toward where the vertibird is and you'll find a complete pristine T45 with a power cell in it just waiting for you.
The lower level of that roadway close to Graygarden has an abandoned bus which makes for a good spot to set up your personal home away from home and it's just inside the Graygarden parameter. You can even build on the top roadway there too. Both levels actually.
and about buying; there is only one plce selling, atom cats garage.. as far as i know.
that gave me a modding idea..
