Can't use any workbenches except the main red one?

Some weird glitch is happening all of the sudden where I just stand in third person and cant access a workbench to build anything. Anyone else ever had this problem? My character also goes all skinny and weird when this happens, at least occasionally.

When you say "main red one" that's the only vanilla settlement workbench.

Do you mean you have issues using CRAFTING benches? Or are you using mods which give new settlement workbench texures/models? If that's the case, check your mod load order, read the bug reports about those mods.

Yes, I meant crafting benches. Such as the Weapons bench. I'll stand in front of it for a moment in third person and be unable to move, and instead of opening the menu for it, it just spits me back into first person. This happens on and off through my latest playthrough.

This sometimes happens to me as well.
The work around is to approach the itme from a different angle.
or push windows button to go to desktop and then click back to the game with the mouse.

in vanilla this (the short pause with rebuke followedup), not the "skinny") only happens when you dont have enove place before the workbench/ a ground obstactle before it, or when you build the workbench a little into a wall. both can render a workbench unaccessable that way until you change its location.
if both isnt the case, its mods, specialy TS last sentence points strong in that direction.

Yeah clear them into a space you can use and move around in. Some of the crafting benches that are found on the map scattered around, like inside Fort Hagen or whatever, I've had similar issues so I just don't bother using ones I haven't put somewhere myself.

Hopefully just that simple space requirement will fix your issues.

Not entirely sure what you mean by "go all skinny" but that is a thing that might be due to conflicting mods, or if you're attempting to use the crafting bench while in power armor. Don't do that.

Damn mods. Guess I'll be troubleshooting for a while then lmao. Anyone know of any particular mods that could cause this? I do use a few body modifiers, so I'll test those first. Caliente's... something. Don't even know why I have it; I never play as Nora.

Does it look like that (if this thing works correctly) This is what happened when a child got into a set of power armor.

If you're using a mod that seriously alters your body it might do that for *whatever* reason. This game is so fragile lol.

All benches have set animations, altering bounds or collision of player body mesh can affect the workbench animation. Even things like objects placed too close to the workbench will impede access and the animation to enter the workbench will fail to run.

If you can't access the benches and it isn't because something is in the way then I would start looking at player body mesh mods.

I had that issue and cured it by unequipping my weapon.

For anyone who had this bug was using console commands:
You could experience this bug after using TAI. In this case you probably accidentally toggled off the player AI. You just need to toggle it on again (go to 3rd person view, open console, click on the player and tip TAI. It shall show the message "Player name AI ON"
