I got a new set of speakers and spent almost an hour trying to figure out why NPCs voices were mumbled. It was because I had set my speakers to use 5.1.
Fallout 4 uses stereo sound and it does not get managed properly like Windows 10 did.
I have looked around on Nexus for any sound correcting mods and have been unable to locate one.
Most like because those games allow 5.1 sound. Fallout 4 is much older and quite frankly I think Bethesda burned us on the stereo only.
Your windows audio settings is the one using 5.1.
UPDATE: this did not fix the issue.
Apparently Mircosoft outsourced it to the store for other companies to make apps to manage sound, but nobody really stepped forward except for Dolby at $15 a month...yeah @#$% you.
I am hoping with the update this year they will fix the sound to allow 5.1 or better. I keep meaning to ask over in Skyrim forums if their anniversary update include sound upgrade.
Although I kinda see Microsoft's point behind outsourcing. Why should they have to develop all the software and drivers to cover all the manufacturers? For that matter aint that something computer manufacturer should do? (HP in my case)
I got the spatial sound (imitation surround sound) to work somewhat with Windows 11, but it is still wonky as @#$% and works right maybe 65% of the time.
Sound setup is pretty irrelevant when Fallout 4 only accepts stereo settings.
All depends on your audio setup.
Sound Card: Creative Sound BlasterX AE-5 Plus SABRE32-class Hi-res 32-bit/384 kHz PCIe Gaming Sound Card and DAC with Dolby Digital and DTS
Headset : Sound BlasterX H6 Gaming Headset
What is the point in saying there is a fix, but not telling anyone what it is?
You said there was two different fixes in the other topic, but did not list them. Sure one may not apply to them, but it could apply to someone using a forum search for their issue.
Hints to why I always asked about their setup.
I know this fix is useless on onboard audio.
Also you don't know how to type it then cause I have it in my nexus list.
I never added you and will only add those who want help.
Have a good day or night.
If you never knew but I blocked you awhile ago. I am not here to fight with you. I will not reply to you.
