Fallout 4

Fallout 4

View Stats:
FO4 audio now cuts out every minute for about 2 seconds.
I have had FO4 for over 2 years with 1800 hrs of play. In the past 1-2 weeks the audio goes out for 1-2 seconds every minute. I'm on Windows 11 and increased my page file to 5GB-10GB and that didn't work. FO4 is installed on the c: drive which is an SSD. This has never been a problem before. I have also not added any mods in the past 2 weeks. I did get a Windows 11 update in the past 2 weeks, right when this started.

Here's my config.

PC: HP Omen GT13-1xxx
OS: Windows 11 Home 64-bit
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with Radeon Graphics, 6 cores
Bios: Ami F.12 11/4/2021
Bios mode: UEFI
SMBios version: 3.3
Memory: 16GB
Display: Nvideo GeForce RTX 3060
Bootable C drive: nTFS SSD with 775GB free, there are several other drives I plugged in from an old PC including another SSD and normal hard drive.
USB headphones are Logitech.
Sound card: unknown
Nvidia did install some audio drivers when I first got the PC but the headphones do not use them, at least the Windows 11 sound settings do not mention that.

FO4 config:

My system: Fallout 4 v1.10.163 (with 6 DLCs: Nuka World, Far Harbor, Creation Club, Contraptions, Wasteland Workshop, etc) installed on C: SSD. I use Vortex Mod Manager to manage mods.

These mods are active: Better Companions No Conflicts (Just turned this off to see if it helped, it did not), Cheat Terminal 1.69, Faster Terminal Display Creation Kit version 3.0, FO4 Load Accelerator to speed up SSD drive loading screens, Gun for Hire v1.1.7, Instant Kill Headshots 1.0, Keep Radiant quests in Commonwealth v1.11, Legendary Modification v1.75 to make weapons legendary, Loot Detector v3800, Shaikujin's Better Warning v5.1, SKS settlement Attack System v012, Unofficial Fallout 4 patch 2.1.4.

No other Steam game does this, and no other app on my computer does this, like playing a Youtube video, which I do 5 days every week. Amazon Music played via my browser is also fine.

Any idea how I can fix this? I'd rather not reinstall as it takes about 8 hours to download the game all over again. I also use the Vortex Mod Manager.

Did your OS update or your video card driver if you use your video card to also process audio?

As I discovered using Windows 11 this week, it really sucks at managing audio.
I got a new set of speakers and spent almost an hour trying to figure out why NPCs voices were mumbled. It was because I had set my speakers to use 5.1.
Fallout 4 uses stereo sound and it does not get managed properly like Windows 10 did.

I have looked around on Nexus for any sound correcting mods and have been unable to locate one.

Most like because those games allow 5.1 sound. Fallout 4 is much older and quite frankly I think Bethesda burned us on the stereo only.

Is there a way to set FO4 from NOT using 5.1 by default?

Fallout 4 does not use 5.1 and that is the problem.
Your windows audio settings is the one using 5.1.

Windows 11 Home does not seem to support 5.1 sound, it uses a "simulated" 5.1 sound called "spatial sound". I turned that off for my Logitech headset and will report back.

UPDATE: this did not fix the issue.

If you're using a headset ... you should be using headphone output. Does 11 not ... do that?

It does but the problem is you get two audio options, off or spatial sound effect.

Apparently Mircosoft outsourced it to the store for other companies to make apps to manage sound, but nobody really stepped forward except for Dolby at $15 a month...yeah @#$% you.

oh HELL no lol.

Yeah this was all news to me just the other day. Like I said earlier I just bought a brand new set of surround sound speakers and subwoofer. I was jamming out to some tunes while messing with mods then went into game and everyone was mumbling to the point you could not even hear them.

I am hoping with the update this year they will fix the sound to allow 5.1 or better. I keep meaning to ask over in Skyrim forums if their anniversary update include sound upgrade.

Although I kinda see Microsoft's point behind outsourcing. Why should they have to develop all the software and drivers to cover all the manufacturers? For that matter aint that something computer manufacturer should do? (HP in my case)

I got the spatial sound (imitation surround sound) to work somewhat with Windows 11, but it is still wonky as @#$% and works right maybe 65% of the time.

If I recall correctly, you complain of sound problems every month. But you never post your sound setup.

So if you have been unable to help him that many times then why are participating in this topic?

Sound setup is pretty irrelevant when Fallout 4 only accepts stereo settings.

IKR he does not now there is a fix to use 5.1 and 7.1 on fallout 4.
All depends on your audio setup.

That is twice you have said there was a sound fix in a few days. However you have not listed a fix in either topic.

What is the point in saying there is a fix, but not telling anyone what it is?

You said there was two different fixes in the other topic, but did not list them. Sure one may not apply to them, but it could apply to someone using a forum search for their issue.

Well I did say it very on what audio setup the user has. I don't list it in public threads I add them as a friend if they want the fix to avoid giving others issues.
Hints to why I always asked about their setup.
I know this fix is useless on onboard audio.
Also you don't know how to type it then cause I have it in my nexus list.
I never added you and will only add those who want help.
Have a good day or night.
If you never knew but I blocked you awhile ago. I am not here to fight with you. I will not reply to you.
