You can tell Darla to go home, you can entice her to attack her friends or you can just kill em all. Or you can convince Skinny Malone to let you go.
There's plenty of other examples in the game where your choices matter, Sure basic conversations and certain story elements are scripted to go a certain way. But there's plenty that let you do what you want.

As for companions, it makes a nuance regardless but it also contains Affinity answers.
