Phantom Weight (FIXED)
my character's inventory weight is bugged. he is carrying an additional 38 pounds on top of what i have, but when i drop every item i can, im still carrying this weight. the only thing left in my inventory are some quest items like notes or keys. how can i fix this? is there a command to remove that 38 from my character?

Also, yes there is a command to remove invisible items in your inventory. You can thank Arondight. use 14.inv to view all contents of your inventory, then 14.removeitem followed by the id of the item. I had a flare that weighed 38 lbs, and a hidden minigun my inventory.

See if this post can be marked!

I still think it's hilarious.

Without knowing what kind of character, stats, mods, or what other quest items you might have... no?

Why?

Are you running on Survival mode? Water has weight, I don't know what else it might stuff on their for survival.

The only mod that i have that would affect my weight is Advanced Needs 76. I have my weight reduced by 150lbs. Why? because there's no reason for the 38 pounds to be there. The only thing in my inventory is a holotape, 2 keys, 2 notes, and a bobble head. Im not playing in survival mode. There is no water in my inventory.

Think that's bad? My character right now has a carry weight of 5480 pounds for some completely unknown reason, at least I can carry around the 20+ guns I like to use :lunar2019piginablanket:

Q: do you really want to troubleshoot this, or do you want to get back to playing?

There's probably a way in calling papyrus, something like 'cf form.setweight' but honestly you'll likely have to read up on https://www.creationkit.com/fallout4/index.php?title=Category:Scripting and get comfortable with CK, xEdit, F4SE (learning it, not just installing it for your mods to use.)

If it was me? make a save first, now go into your inventory and unequip everything that has the "i'm wielding or wearing this" little dot or cube next to it... and then do 'player.removeallitems' then see what your carry weight is.

The save is important, this will break the game, you will not be able to play correctly afterwards, you need to reload. (for instance you won't have a pip-boy) This is just to test.

Are you at 0? If so you likely have an invisible or glitched item, so reload, do 'player.inv' and find it's number, and 'player.removeitem <iitem_RefID>' and get your life back. Might be more than one, so rinse and repeat if needed.

Note if it's not 0? Did you forget to do what I told you? The unequip step is important, because this might be how some mod gave you permanent weight you can't get rid of.

The items are gone from your inventory but their weight remains, especially the weapon you're holding and the clothes/armor you're wearing, and you can't "take them off" cause they don't exist.

Anyway... so the fastest solution? Teach yourself not to care about it. :-)

Just offset it, eg. 'player.modav carryweight 38' and tada! let's pretend your soul is so good / evil it actually is a burden to carry, but you took a magic pill that offsets that weight, and go about your day.

I do understand getting caught up in the WHY IS THIS HAPPENING and if you can't let it go? Condolences. And good hunting! :radiationsymbol:
