Fallout 4 base game without DLC worth it?

I'm kind of new in the Fallout series and I just want to dive inside the main story of the fourth game that I didn't play till this day. Even without buying the GOTY Edition is going to be worth to taking a try on the base game?

yes, but when you enjoy it you're going to want the GOTY anyway.

Wait for the GOTY to be in your price range, but definitely worth playing even vanilla no-dlc.

The main story is ... meh? But there are a lot of things even without the DLC that are quite fun, sidequests and exploration mostly. But if you want to start modding the game you may NEED the dlc to do so, since many good mods rely on textures and models or things like that found in the dlc and not main.

honestly worth it imo. this game provided me with some of the best DLC i have ever experienced before, along with some very cool new gear, and very interesting characters

The DLC is totally worth it and the GOTY edition is on sale more often then it is not.

To answer the question, I would say yes. All the DLCs simply add more to the game. I really liked the Automatron one and Far Harbor is great too. Everything else is situational depending on your tastes or what you want to play with.

But like it has already been mentioned, you could always just get it all in one go anyways too.

When I got G.O.T.Y. not long ago, I really felt "bombarded" with cool content. I've been tinkering with settlements alone for over 20 experience levels. I see lots of potential for stuff.

It is worth it unless you want to mod your game. Almost all the good mods require all dlc content now, so just wait for goty to go on sale.

Only the goty version receives the free update coming later this year. The price difference between the 2 versions currently is almost nil. Many mods such as the unofficial bug patch require the GOTY.

In my opinion, not really. The DLC's are kinda what make this game for me. Nuka World and Far Harbor are really fun.

Wait - you don't own the base game?

Then no. It's currently on sale, just buy GOTY.... if you don't like it, you'll refund it with an hour and a half or whatever, no harm no foul.

But if you do, then you'll be set up to enjoy it for DECADES and I am not kidding, many people have over 1000 hours, some even 10000... once you start modding, it's not one game it's 20 games in one.
