The ability to build various automatron parts is gained by either finding the relevant part on a destroyed automatron robot, or by completing the main quest of the Automatron DLC (which will unlock all standard parts).
You'll probably have to finish the Automatron DLC to be able to overhaul Ada as a full sentry bot anyway, as I don't think anywhere near all possible parts actually appear as salvage.
Putting ADA into a sentry bot is a great idea t first. However Ada can no longer follow you around properly indoors. So this causes her to be left behind or be teleported ahead (because she cannot fit in the current space) into rooms you have no visited yet.
