The new Steam client is unusable

I don't just mean I don't like it (I hate it). I mean it's literally unusable. I had to hack URLs by hand just to make this post.

Did they do any beta testing or was this just foisted on the whole user base a few days ago?

The back button does not work and you cannot open most links anymore. I hate the new notifications thingy.

Thrown on the user base would be my guess because with those basic functions not working.

I have noticed the issue with the back button, but can't say I've had any new problems with links. It still does mess up at times (going to the Steam community page instead of bringing up the warning about going to a non-Steam site) but it was already doing that at times before the update. And just clicking the link again usually causes it to go through properly.

Most of it works fine for me, but I'm knocking on wood since it also has been telling me in that danger-red-box that my OS isn't good enough for them.

The back button key thing is a serious problem though, I cannot understand how it has both nice clear information about stuff and easier to read info, and... then neglects a core feature of using a physical device...

Yeah pretty much everyone kinda hates it now because nothing seems to work right. Like click on links that refuse to open on the first try (unless you use open in new tab, which does
Steam Window rather than browser), unable to backpage (makes searching forums a pain), chat are kinda messed as well.

You don't get the unread comments counter / view any more. Luckily I have the old link bookmarked, and it still works - for now.

Though I haven't had all of the issues people have described, I have noticed that the new Steam Overlay and the Big Picture gamepad config menu slow-down horrendously at higher resolutions. 1440p is latent but bearable while 4k is just awful. This is with GPU accelerated rendering and hardware video decoding enabled.

Can't see a cursor to position text to type or edit.
Can't close windows.
Clicking in one window brings a different window to draw over it, blocking what I'm doing in the first window.

This is some amateur hour beta nonsense going on here.

Since the back button is broken to retrieve that quote I had to:
Click on recent notifications.
Click on show all.
Click on the topic.
Copy the quote
Then go back to recent notifications again.
Click on show all again to bring up this topic.

All that versus being able to just press the back button.

You would think form a technical standpoint it makes FAR more sense to fix the back button because using the back button can reload from memory rather than make additional server requests.

Steam is unusable from a phone now.
And phones are overwhelmingly the main way to access any media now.

Well for PC the back button now works like 90% of the time. Links still BAF.

I think it depends on which Hub you are browsing, because 90% of the time I use Back button on other game's Hubs, it is still broke.

The Notifications process is now still totally broken. I just get an endless page of blue bubbles.

I was just using the Store, I added an item to my cart, then it loses my position in a scroll through about 300 games. This is basic, basic stuff. If these guys were working for Bezos they would be on the street holding cardboard signs.
