It is in-world canon. That is Vault Tec's 'logo' it's a character in their universe and it's there for a reason...
Yeah i noticed it, i got this game some years back while on sale and realized there something in there i am not happy with. Kinda funky in there lol.
Btw glad they didnt put that in Skyrim and hopefully wont be in upcoming Starfield, i wouldnt buy it if i does have that silly addons.

It seems you're not alone on this, though. After doing some googling it seems a lot of people were complaining for not having an option to remove Vault Boy.
Sadly, I couldn't find a mod that does it yet.
Am i missing sonething?
The setting is based on an anachronistic 1950s atomic age America, which had exactly these silly comics to sell all the new nuclear stuff, or play down the dangers of nuclear annihilation.
Just check out the "Duck & Cover" movies that were used to educate small children.

Vault Boy is the mascot of Vault Tec, the company in the lore that made the underground vaults that were supposedly used to protect the inhabitants to repopulate America after nuclear war.
I like all the sound effects and the juxtaposition of humor and seriousness. If anything I wish the game didn't include cannibalism crap.
In a nuclear wasteland that might be all you have to keep you alive, so from that point of view it's very much a part of survival.
We can all sit here casually holding our controllers with a snack and say "yeah, screw that", but we're not living in a place where food is virtually non existent, and everyone wants your head.... If it's do that and live, or die, you can bet people will do it.
Would i do it? Oh god no.

Back to the dark humour, i always run with Travis in the background; the game just feels that much better with "DCR" on, compared to the "serious" style ambient music that otherwise plays (i've turned that off...)
With "More Where That Came From" + "Elvani's" tracks, there's a lot more on the radio.
You have my compassion. 😉
I hope that the explanations given are enough to make you see that removing it would be kinda sad? Because in the long run fallout is a very bog-standard game if not for the quirky world it's set in.
