Vault 88

The game crashes when I try to load in vault 88, I have tried save games, and it still crashes. It is just when I try to play vault 88, the game loads all other times. I got all the way up to the interviews and the overseer would not talk. but its getting the game to load now, I have to try several times

When was the last time the game ran properly without crashing?

What mods are you using, including anything from the bethesda menu?

Also, are you using steam's cloud for save storage? Don't. Make sure that you have a nice clean save that works, and DISABLE CLOUD SAVING. Remember that your cloud has only a small amount of space on it. Fill it up, and things can go wrong.

It loads a save game just fine outside the vault 88 entrance, but as soon as I enter the vault it crashes to desktop

It must be about the action you try to do lastly before it crashes..

it's probably about overseer's dialog script.

If you were building up the Vault and were messing around with power a lot, you may have caused a power bug inside Vault 88, which may be crashing your game. This happened to me a lot over the years with various settlements (especially when using Vault 88 generators and powered floors). Worst was Spectacle island after continuing to save games after experiencing power supply crashes, only for the area to eventually crash on game load.

A good fix if you can get into an area with power crashes, is running mods that has settlement power fixes built in them. you can search for these on Nexus.

Also related to settlements crashing: Sometimes building up a settlement way beyond the max limit via console commands etc., can cause crashes in said settlement area. Either travelling from or to the location with the former being the first to show up. My current Sanctuary Hills capital build is way over limit (to the point I get visual tearing/bleeding at the dog/raider at the bridge, which I try to avoid but i'm not fixing this time! :P ), and every time I fast travel from there, I crash If I didn't launch the game recently.

If you have progressed far enough try entering from another entrance to Vault 88.

If you're just starting the dlc, maybe verify the integrity of your Fallout 4 install or your mods if any.

Lastly you could try to uninstall and reinstall the Vaultec dlc by disabling it.

I know that power network related crashes. It's called 'scrap crash', but it usually happens whenever you scrap something in settlements..

Had the same issue. Solved it by lowering the settings while walking into vault 88 because a raid was happening at the time so it was loading the whole fight scene and for some reason my 6 core and rtx 3060 couldn't handle it. lol After getting into the vault though I had no issues reloading vault 88 on max settings. Weapon debris caused some issues to but i could live without it honestly.

No nVidia users should have Weapon Debris on, latest brain fart from the green team, mostly unsupported in all video games. No benefit at all.
