Fallout 4

Do you think that Lone wanderer is a bit overrated?
As I reading through the fallout forums and watching Fallout 4 youtube videos I kept noticing people say that Lone wolf is basically a must have for survival. And I actually mostly agree when it comes to most companions except when it comes Ada, Cogsworth, Cait and Nick Valentine. Because for starts. Having lockpicking/hacking capabilities at lower levels is handy when someone may need to invest into other perks sooner. Cogsworth is also really good early game. More worth it then an initial 15% damage reduction.

Second. Some of Ada's capabilities are downright op. With the right mods Ada can have around 500 backpack space. Regeneration coils regenerate health faster then rank 3 lifegiver and solar powered. And don't even get me started on Nuka Quantum Launchers. If you equip Ada with Nuka Quantum Launchers add can easily wipe crowds of raiders and solo mire lurk queens and death claws. Equipping Ada with Nuka Quantum Launchers is like having two guns with unlimited ammo that automatically shoots pairs of ranged+damage enhanced frag grenades at the enemy. Its far more valuable then a 25% damage boost in my opinion. I also find if you use the Mr. handy torso with Mr. Handy jet legs the pathing with Ada works decently and Ada will usually keep up with the player at a reasonable pace. Though does come at the cost of lower bagpack space. Finally

I think that most of the problem associated with companions have solutions:

-Kill. Stealing. Use the mod that allows exp from companion kills
-Breaking stealth. Ada has a stealth field generator and can ask companions to stay where they are. If someone has ninja perk maxed out then the extra lone wolf damage is often not even needed. Especially if using melee weapons.
-Enemies aggroing unwanted enemies. Learn to command them properly.

There is also the improved companion mod, but the only companion mod I've been using is the one that gives exp from companion kills.

Yeah, well, I don't use PA either, so. . . /shrug
(didn't use power armor in 3, 4, NV, or 76. It's ugly, clunky, and unstealthy.)

Same, the only time I use it is to get the mini-gun then I no longer need it.

Nuka World is open at L1. It just takes L30 for the game to tell you where it is.

yeah, but the chances of actually completing it at that level on survival is pretty low... especially vanilla with a pipe gun or 10mm.....
LOL
No kidding. I think I went through it at L10, it seems like. Hell... IDK.

You don't even need it to get the minigun. You can get that minigun in Concord if you have a strength of at least 8.

I start with pretty low strength so its the only way. Step in get mini gun step out jump over to the church.
Or take it to Sanctuary and let a settler use it as its no longer use full to me.

I usually like going for aggressive in your face playstyles minimal stealth, but could probably also beat it around level 30 with any build that has enough damage output for colter and either enough stealth to not trigger the turrets or defense to get past them. The main threats to doing the gauntlet at level 30 is the turrets, Colter and there is a few mirelurks. But it is possible to run past the turrets and mirelurks.

I think my point still stands also. Someone may not like power armor and thats fine. But even someone who doesn't like it still technically could use it to through the gauntlet safely and the robots and galactic zone, get the mods then take it off after that.

Lone Wanderer is clearly overrated, since most of the real work on Project Purity was done by their dad and Dr. Li. :steammocking:

I decided to test out a bunch more Automatron combos and I am more convinced then ever that using Automatron companions can be more powerful then lone wolf so long as one is not running a sneak focused build that relies on sneak kills. If someone aggressive in your face kind of builds like a close to mid range type gunman or a tanky brawler type melee build or a build that relies a lot on explosives and traps. Here is a few automatron builds that I find work great.

1. Mr. Handy Quantum Nuka Cola bomber. Good for long range. Very fast.

Add 2 Quantum Nuka Cola launchers and these things will deal serious repeated Aoe damage. Like launching constant nuka cola grenades with no ammo requirement. Using the Mr.Handy build it gives a long engagement distance and I have seen this build weapon out enemies in distant cliffs and very far distances. This build also allows great movement speed and good pathing. The bot will rarely be too far behind. The shots are also accurate too.

2. Assaultron Tank/brawler

Using an assaultron build with a heavy laser head, heavy flamer and a hammer saw. Add some armor parts that cause melee targets to bleed and be irradiated. Assaultrons builds like this can tank a lot of damage at higher levels and absolutely devastate enemies with close range attacks and that eye laser. The key is to send these bots in to attack before going in for the attack oneself. This will allow them to tank a lot of damage addition to making up for the loss of lone wolf.

Some robobrain builds can be decent, but I wouldn't use anything but the assault legs or Mr.handy thruster because sentry legs often have a difficult time getting in center places and robobrain threats don't have as good pathing.

Keep in mind I am also talking about this presuming no mods or on very hard or survival.
