how did he get there?
are those two unaccounted for Brotherhhod soldiers from another chapter?
I mean, even Elder Maxson; tells them that many of them will die and he's willing to make that sacrifice while he hides on the Prydwen.
That means 5 knights, a scribe, and Paladin Brandis. A total of 7 BOS being outnumber 5 to 1 odds, which means the attacking force was over 30 attackers. They split up to rendezvous back at the bunker you meet Paladin Brandis at.
Paladin Brandis went back for Knight Astlin as shown in Scribe Faris's holotape so just more fan fiction rather than actual lore.
hope you haven't accidentially tipped into that cell and let the body cleanup do its job.. but he should be present right at start.
also, to just check it you can simple tlc up there...
means, visiting the corps isn't even worth the effort.
Hmm, the Scribe (wandering merchant) describes himself as something like a separatist who went wandering after becoming disillusioned with Arthur Maxson (preferring Lyons' methods).
That could be a possibility for the others; separatists who rejected Arthur's fusion and came to the Commonwealth looking to continue the cause in their own ways. In the case of the Boston Public Library roof, he could have been working with Curator Givens (the dead guy who was in charge of things inside the library).
as for the two unidentified... the easiest explanation and the most likely is that they originally belonged to Brandis... just count the destroyed PAs in the malden house and do a head count.
i don't like the following explanation my self but i assume that those were supposed to play their parts in finding brandis at an earier development stage but were ultimately cut from the quest...
MacCready and Doctor Li are from Capital Wasteland.
During MacCready's final quest you talk to Daisy who has caravans that travel to and from Capital Wasteland.
Then you have the three BOS expeditions, which their way of travel is known, could have been on foot or by vertibird.
...and hell Kellogg was from San Francisco.

With Brandis you figure 6 sets of power armor in a vertibird...um ya.
Danse was the only one in power armor on his team, so not so much of a weight issue.
The original recon team has no info on the composition.
You just seemed like you did not think it was possible to make the trip on foot, most likely due to the dangers of monsters, raiders, etc. Which I understand that would be a very dangerous trip with low chances of success. However there was references saying it was possible.
