Freeze during Nuclear Family
Just gonna leave this here for anyone who might have the same problem. Chose to side with the Institute and destroyed BOS (yeah, I know Institute is the Bad Guy but since I'm the new boss so that was in the past). About to complete the quest, talked to Father, who died thereafter, the cutscene started 'I lost Shaun...' and BAM. Freeze. Stop working, have to shut it down. Cannot proceed to post ending content. Teleport out and tried using the 'completequest Inst308' cmd to force the quest to end. Get the quest to end, yes, but Father iss sill alive in the Institute (WTF) when I tp back, talked to him, freeze again.
Seems no solution for this. Wew, at least I finished this gem. Good game.

Verify your game files.

If you are running any mods at all, check them.

Make sure that if you're running and CC or bethesda-sourced mods, that they are correct and updated.

Load a prior save before the corrupt part happened, and don't use the save that you first crashed on ever again. Once they're broken, that save file is *done*. So hopefully you weren't on Survival.

* Verified game files which only revert my setting (disable subtitle, revert pipboy light, THAT's ALL)
* No mod, vanilla.

Then moving to a prior save file, and starting from before you got to that point, may be your option.

Without knowing whether you've had other issues along the way it's hard to say. Did your video card or OS have any form of updates since you started the game?

Same issue here. Went back to prior save, checked graphic card drivers, actually updated them after - just in case, ran "Verify Integrity" in Steam. No mods but used Flawless Widescreen, which I tried to turn off. Still freezing game. So frustrating.

I have never seen the Institute as "the Bad Guy." Yes, they did/do questionable things. Yes, they operate in the shadows.

BUT, they never outright slaughter anyone for being in the way. The Railroad however...
Okay to slaughter hundreds of (paid mercenary) humans to preserve a single malfunctioning machine... wtf?
The so-called "Good Guys" are just as horrible.

Welcome to Fallout. You just have to pick the one that's "least" bad for you. And it's always someone different for each of us, I side with the Institute only because I love the outfits? But I also mod so I don't have to up and murder the RR.

^The Lesser of Two Evils is my mantra (and playstyle) in all Bethesda games.
Always proud to be a member of the faction that sucks the least...but often means the Independent route.

Starfield is already showing signs that there are no other sentient races in the universe besides humans, so they may be breaking the loop with that one, but guaranteed there will be an obvious "Bad Guy" who might not be all that bad...
