People like SavrenX do a number of retextures, one of which is for power. If you want to keep the vanilla models, this might be a good pick for you.

As for realism, I mean, the whole suit of power armor is missing an engine...the power source just plugs into an empty socket that doesn't go anywhere. I think your expectations are just too high...though there's probably someone modding more realistic power armor.
I don't really use the power armor much. But it's handy against some opponents (like if they have a fat man and you don't want to sneak up on them).
Ih I dunno, i doubt even Bsoft, can "luck" into the incredibly comic moments and conversations, that have peppered their games,
