Another basic body & clothing thing to be aware of is Bodyslide. This is an additional utility to tweak bodies and clothing to your preferred shape - CBBE, Fusion Girl, and other bodies aren't restricted to one set of proportions, you can morph them into all sorts of sizes with Bodyslide. Which, of course, means that you also need to make all the clothing you download fit your body as well. There are hundreds of Bodyslide "presets" that people have uploaded, many of them claiming to be 'the best' or 'natural' or 'realistic' or whatever - but really, they're just catering to whichever particular preferences/fetishes that person likes. /shrug
(prolific clothing mod authors generally have their own preferred shape, so if you just use their mods you can just use their default body & clothing without having to bodyslide it. But if you mix & match, you'll need to reshape whatever other mods you use.)
Oh, right - and the third general idea. "Normal" outfits in Fallout 4 are a whole-body suit that replaces the body along with it; armor pieces, hats, and other accessories fit in other "slots" and just sit on top of that body without changing it. Mods with full outfits will work the same way.
But then there's mix-and-match mods, that just give you lots of separate articles of clothing to build your outfit from. For those, it's the shoes that the body is attached to, with all the other bits (shirt, jacket, gloves, pants, underwear, etc) are loose items that fill other slots. So if you have some mods with full outfits (or are wearing a base-game outfit), and other mods with bits & pieces, you can get some equipment slot conflicts.
Just some things to be aware of.
(oh, and re: bodyslide & alternate bodies. There's a variety of 'replacer' packs for the base game clothing & armor, because that has to be made to fit a replacement body as well. The main body mod usually comes with a simple replacer - I know CBBE does - but then you can find others that have been made to different styles. Like the "Classy Chassis" set of replacer mods, which are somewhat more revealing. And then there's an absurdly over-the-top revealing replacer that turns everything into micro thongs and shredded tops. And other things in between. Options. Whee. /shrug)
