Can you do that early game?
That being said it still isn't easy to amass a lot since the weapon is both so absurdly feeble and inaccurate.
Abernathy is likely to be your best source of early fertiliser, but that will only go so far when you spend one fertiliser for just 10 rounds..... but you can set up brahmin in settlements to generate some more, use VATS to reduce ammo wastage and leaning heavily on damage buffs such as psycho to make ammo more efficient. Scrounger helps too.
To be blunt, the minigun is such a poor weapon that I had to use a combination of all of these to make my survival minigun only run playable. I ended up spending a lot of time managing the ammo plant and gave up by level 30.
If you want a heavy weapon that is more manageable early on you should try the junk jet or a flechette harpoon instead.
The best place to get more minigun ammo is to kill NPCs who have miniguns. There is one guaranteed at USAF Olivia. I don't know of any other guaranteed early game minigun spawns, but there are some other heavy weapon spawns.
I agree with the advice that if you are going to go Heavy Weapons you need to mix it up in order to have enough ammo early game. And any game where you use Auto weapons you need to take Scrounger.
You can get the Junk Jet very early and ammo for that is easy to find. However it can be surprisingly expensive when you consider the opportunity cost of selling the junk. Even more so if you do any significant crafting, because you than have to consider the opportunity cost of *not buying* that junk when you need it for crafting.
I expect you will need to become an intensive water farmer just to be able to afford to make (or buy) enough 5mm ammo.
