But something is clearly wrong, if you're getting immediate CTDs make sure you have F4SE and Buffout4 installed, then go look at your logs, under your save game directory in a folder named F4SE, there will be one for each F4SE app... there will be a clue as to what's causing it.
It's not unusual for someone who uses mods to have this happen, so you need to be a teeny bit technical and persistent. But once you get it working? Waste the ~50Gigs it takes to make another snapshot backup of your entire Fallout 4/MO2 setup, in fact I keep a specific MO2 install *inside* the Fallout 4 director in the steam library, simply for that fact, so when, you back it up, you back it ALL up, even the cached downloads of mods. I mean it's almost 2023 who cares about a few "wasted" hundred gigs when your data HDD is 12 or 16TB? It's nothing and prevents having to troubleshoot when you don't feel like it, just copy that backup over your main SSD install in steamapps\common\Fallout 4 and back in business!
I waste terabytes on backups, but of my ~12 installs of Fallout 4? None of them are currently crashing. Just saying.
No it's not, there are specific shades for this game available though. Good that you figured it out though! Someone else might have this issue.
I often had so-called deleted mods that remained in the cache (not visible) which caused conflicts with my new game mod configurations!
You don't need to launch using vortex or mo2. Just make a shortcut to the correct file on your desktop and make sure you're already running Steam before starting the game.
