Why can't I move some settlers from my settlements?
I wanted to abandon some of the smallers ones, where I only have two settlers, but when I click on them in workshop mode, the "move" option stays greyed out, and when I try it anyway, it says "You can't move this person from this settlement". They're just settlers, they're not named NPCs.

Is this a bug, or is it the way it was supposed to be? I successfully emptied out Murkwater, and one other, I can't recall which, but now I can't close out these last two settlements (one mhas a population of 4, and one has a population of two.

Thanks for any help that's offered. :)

Some settlers are quest givers and some can't be moved because you have nowhere to move them too.
Check that first

Okay, thank you. I don't think these are, and I'm moving everyone to Starlight, which only has 8 settlers right now. But I'll double check the quest giving thing. Thanks! I think I also need to make note of WHICH settlements won't let me move out the last two settlers, that might have something to do with the situation. In the words of Arnold Schwarzenneger, "I'll be back". ;)

ok, the two settlements that I can't empty are County Crossing and Oberland Station. The settlers in there aren't quest givers, and I have plenty of room at Starlight.

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

Build mode ---> look at settler --> hit your "assign key" (displayed at bottom, normally R)

Ahh, I hadn't tried that, Chemical, thank you!

Jessica - when you're in workshop mode, click on the settler - you will see an option that says "move". Click that, and you will be offered a choice of settlements to move them to.

If the settlement is greyed out, the population is maxed out. Try using chems and clothing that increases your Charisma level to increase the max. A player with a Charisma of 8 can have eighteen settlers max, etc.

Make sure you have enough beds for everyone, or they'll start whining that they're sleeping in shifts. This is true EVEN IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH BEDS at the one settlement. If you're short at another settlement far away, they'll still whine. I always make sure to have at least 3 more beds than settlers at every settlement.

Have fun! :)

Chemical, with all due respect, the "assign" button just assigns the settler to a new job in the settlement. The "move" button moves them to a different settlement. :)

Those 2 settlements that have 2 settlers are the original settlers and cannot be moved, they also give quests.

On a side note, Settler limits are tied into your charisma, the higher it is the more you can have at one settlement, the wiki says the base is 10 then one for each charisma point. I had the same prob at Country crossing which was taking 18 the Castle would only allow me to a limit of 17 there until I got another Charisma point so on that basis the the count is out of whack.

I know, but sometimes reassigning a settler to a new job can make them be able to move, I had a bug liek that at one point
