Are gorillas friendly?

I built my battle arena, got Marcy Long inside it as team blue, caught a gorilla, and turned off the beta wave pacifier beam.

They didn't battle. Instead, the gorilla somehow got out and is peacefully wandering around Sanctuary, while Marcy is locked inside a large cage.

Well, that is an improvement.

Is gorilla a permanent guest at Sanctuary now, or does he despawn at some point?

Can't assign him. He has a happyface icon and provides 10 settlement defense.

Maybe if that beam is on when you power-down the cage, the critter is permanently pacified.

I'm on my character who took the Railroad ending. Gorillas are Institute synths, so maybe you have to get to the Institute for them to unlock?

That's what I'm thinking, haven't started the main quest yet on this save.
