Thanks Beth for making the only way to get your followers back is to fast travel....which you can't.
I have to enlist another companion, send dogmeat to sanctuary at the prompt, then wait for him to show up there. It seems like this occurs when I enter an area through a door; sometimes dogmeat loads in with me, sometimes he doesn't. Oh well, I am tired of him running away when I want to get into his inventory anyway. Let's roll, Codsworth!
And Tyberis, I doubt Bethesda intended for you to have to fast travel to get a companion back, it seems like a bug.
