Shaun: Am I the only one...?
WARNING: End-Game Spoilers ahead! Proceed at your own risk

Am I the only one wholeft Synth Shaun to die? I sacked the Institute with the Minutemen, and I left him behind not because he was a synth but because I just felt that he wasn't my son, but "the next best thing".

I have nothing against Synths who just want to be friendly though... eventhough I destroyed the Railroad... Looks like I've got some making up to do in Far Harbour...

To be honest the only reasons I didn't blow up the BOS were 1.) the Commonwealth needs some form of uniform military/protection/enforcement and 2.) Danse :P

But I don't agree with their "purification" ideals.

Oh lord no, I ditched it without a second thought. Like, I get it, Shaun's intent was to try to give you back all that time you lost with your child. But that ♥♥♥♥ was really sick, I wanted no part of it. That was not your son.

In the end it's all about deciding if someone gets to die or no, and I chose to let the kid live. Even though we (the charactere and the kid actually) may never grow attached and have a real relationship, the little fella may still live his own life. It's not all about the character or the player, I think.

You have to leave Shaun to die. Synth Shaun was likely programmed by Father to restart his work on Synths, restart his work on destabilizing the Commonwealth, restart his work on ensuring that everyone on the surface is destroyed so that it can be replaced by synths controlled by the synth Shaun. So Synth Shaun is a sleeper agent. If you felt that you had to destroy the Institute because the people in the Institute presented too large a risk to the people of the Commonwealth then you have to destroy Synth Shaun and every single person in the Institute.

Letting Synth Shaun out of the Institute and issuing the evacuation command will undermine the entire purpose of the campaign to destroy the Institute. You don't want to destroy the Institute buildings, you want to destroy the Institute scientists because it is the scientists who threaten the Commonwealth, not the buildings.
You realise that even though Synth Shaun is a synth; he was made by human Shaun. So in away that Synth is your grandson. He's also Gen 3 so he's practically human, so you'd be leaving a life form to die if you decided to nuke the institute.

Synth Shaun can't grow up so most of this is impossible.

Well by that logic every synth is your grandchild.

Fair enough, actually. The Institute altered Shaun's DNA to make many many different Synths, so chances are you're not related to any one of them at all except for Synth Shaun because (most likely) he was an exact copy of real Shaun's DNA.

You can't infiltrate a human population, if you can't mimic human behavior, so i'm pretty sure he could grow.

Pretty much, my son was getting busy.

He was never supposed to infiltrate the human population- Shaun only gave him to you as a fresh start for the Synth child. The Institute scientists (specifically Dr. Li I think) talks about how making synth Shaun is pointless because "he can't ever age".

He was made prior to us coming to the institute, it was most likely the next step past Gen 3, which was child synths. How can you replace just adults and not children to; children aren't completley stupid one could alert somebody that there parent is acting strange?

That has no point in this, but to answer your question the synth replacements are made to act similar to the original see the Warwick event/incident thing.

Anyways, Dr. Li herself said the child cannot age. That's an undisputable fact.

OK but if you kill him because he's a synth, then you also must have killed Danse, Nick Valentine, Curie...

He can growup because his body is human meaning it will age and die. I know that Bethesda says Gem 3s don't age but that is ignoring the actual science and has no basis in reality or the game world when they go so far to show that the synth bodies are clone bodies.

However whether or not Synth Shaun will age or not is entirely irrelevent. What matters is that Synth Shaun was likely programmed by father to continue the real Shaun's work at some future point in time. Synth Shaun is a synth, meaning he is running a program written by a human. Synth Shaun isn't human, and we don't know what Shaun's actual purpose is. But given real the fact that real Shaun is a psychopathic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who wants to see the world on the surface burn so that he can replace everyone with Synths controlled by the Institute, it is only logical to assume that Synth Shaun was his contingency plan to ensure that his work would continue even in the event that his mother/father destroyed him and the Institute.
