Why can't I bring along Dogmeat and a second Companion?
I'm pretty sure every game of Fallout has had the rule of one dog/robot and another companion...so why in Fallout 4 when I try to hire Piper, Dogmeat is forced to be sent back home?
Is this just a horrible new change in Fallout 4? Do I need a certain perk to bring both Dogmeat and a companion? What is the deal here? I was even told by my other friends they are able to bring both Dogmeat and a companion along. Any advice would be helpful!

I don't recall being allowed more than one companion at a time in previous games without mods... I'll admit I haven't played them in a long while though.

Probably because of how FO4 is, it'd be seriously OP to have Dogmeat + 1. I haven't really gotten into FO3 so I can't compare. But seeing many playaers see companions as just mules and enemy bait, I don't see why Bethesda owes to us to give us two companions. Most players, I feel based on reading forums, don't utilize companions as *companions*--they don't invest any effort in understanding how to make companion AI work for them or they are turned off by the companion's chatter or other personality attributes. So I can't blame the devs for thinking we don't need more.

Fallout 3 and NV let you have 2 companions. But in 3, Dogmeat couldn't carry anything. In NV, you got ED-E and Rex (Dogmeat) and they could carry stuff.

Yeah, to be honest I never much cared for using companions in the previous games so that's likely why I missed that.

Having one companion already causes enough problems, I can't imagine how much worse the experience would be with two companions blocking the doorway.

well you companions actually talk to you. including dogmeat. so they would be talking over each other methinks. also just mod it if you want more.

Or worse yet dogmeat running out and getting shot by your other companion.

It would just be a mess.

There's already a mod to allow you to do exactly that.

Yeah, I agree. Once I maxed Strong Back, I stopped going about with a companion (aside from getting the perks) because they can kill stealth for me, they can get in the way, they can be annoying (Strong pisses me off to NO DAMN END! ARGH!), and I like the bonuses I get from going it alone. I know about the dog... but the stealth thing and the getting in the way thing is still a... thing. xD Otherwise, I love the doggy and did use him for ages.
