Report a translation problem
I can't remember the steps I took to wire the thing, it was a bit accidental, however I connected the generator to the relay dish, and then the generator to the beam emitter.
Then I hooked up the controle console (the thing with the green lights) to the relay dish.. It worked that way for me.
Just make sure the parts are not too far away from each other.
Your companion stays behind when you teleport into the Institute. Later on you have the option of a Courser as companion and he does pop back and forth with you.
