However, they will sometimes for some reason
It wasn't until survival that they didn't, which is intentional.
If that is the case, I'll be modding that crap out. I don't want to spend my whole game sessions doing robot repair or, not using them.
lol.
or a puddle of steaming green goo.

But my "new automatron" P1X13 bot, this past weekend, was not auto-repairing after battle, when the [hidden] thing reappeared. even after long waits. only when I used a repair kit. I probably used about 8-10 repair kits this weekend.
Tonight, I used the same bot config, but it was a modified Ada. when Ada went down from tanking the behemoth, she got right back up after the battle ended.
also, last week, I had been using an un-modified ada. she would get clobbered, and auto repair after battle with no need for me to interfere.
so, there does seem to be something special about the named npcs. cogsworth, curie, and ada are probably all going to self-repar at the end of a fight.
anyways, i hope this info helps someone. have fun + good luck !
ps. I play on the "normal" difficulty. so if somethings different on Hard Mode ++, then your milage may vary...
Very useful for unstable guns, as they come back after they are destroyed in a fight.
Though I haven't seen anyone selling robot repair kits (but I really haven't been looking for them) so possibly you could also buy more.
Me, I just kitted Ada, out of all my companions, I like her the most... and I really don't like companions... I prefer stealth and they're just useless at that.
i can confirm that provisioner bots are both essential and protected (they stand back up after combat is over) so you are safe
here is the rest of vital info:
Custom bots that are in your settlement but arent your companions CAN BE DESTROYED BY ENEMIES - so keep that in mind when building bots to protect your settlement they arent essential anymore unless you have them as companion then they are essential again but they dont heal after combat you need to have some robot repair kits handy or else they will remain dormant in last location they were damaged forever
Now I had made Curie in to a super killer, I love to make the melee robots based on the assaultron platform, give them a blade and a construction claw, will be insanely brutal... :D
Love how she says, something along "Why does it have to be such violence, why cant people be kind.." I dont remeber what she say.... xD and she says that while pushing down a gunner dude, and while he lay on his back she stab him 15 times until he turn in to paste lol xD awesome!
