Fallout4.esm?

I had it before I restarted my PC and I redownloaded F4 and theres no Fallout4.esm so NMM wont start. How do I fix this?

First, the Fallout4.esm is there. That's the game it'self. Without it you have no bathroom scene or anything else. It is located in C:/Program Files[x86]/Steam/steamapps/common/Fallout 4.

Your issue seems to be that NMM can't find the correct .ini, NOT .esm. You didn't play until you left Vault 111 and walked down the hill to Sanctuary. You have to do that inorder for the game to create the Fallout4Custom.ini that NMM is looking for.

Once you have the Fallout4Custom.ini, located in Documents/My Games/Fallout 4, you need to add 3 lines to it to enable nexus mods to work.

Under iLocation Y=0 you Must add the following;
[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=

Make sure you place the Capital letters where they go and nexus mods will work.

****You can use Notepad to create the Fallout4Custom.ini and place it in My Games/Fallout 4 if you're in too big of a hurry to wait until you leave the vault to mod the game.


I strongly suggest you do not add mods until you have played for several hours to make sure the vanilla game runs well on your pc.

Edit; Another thing you need to be aware of is that some mods cannot be activated until you leave Vault 111. If you do activate them before leaving the vault, your game will CTD. Read EVERYTHING on a mod's page before deciding to install it. AND!!!!!!!!, Read and FOLLOW the uninstall directions before uninstalling ANY mod!

Ive done everything here up until launching the game, I launched the game and i still get the error message saying fallout.esm is missing.

So I download and went to garage scene of fallout4. I have my vortex to manage both games and it still saying i am missing my fallout4.esm

i looked in Data (as i have to manually fix FDI's look up failed as the mod that does it doesn't work) but i can't find fallout 4.esm (it's not missing as all my mods work but i can't find it even using the search function)
