Battle of Bunker Hill - companion decision.
The player can watch the three factions fighting each other without getting involved until he meets the synths with the courier.
Should I leave Piper at home and do this quest alone as Piper seems to be a loose cannon, likely to start shooting at someone thereby turning them hostile?
On a previous occasion while fighting super mutants a BOS chopper hovered nearby and she fired on them turning them hostile.

They don't really count against their factions afaik, so you can kill them freely; I could be wrong
Schroff Apr 2, 2016 @ 3:07am
You can be friendly with all factions yet kill everyone fighting with no negative consequences. Won't matter.

But if I let them kill themselves then I won't be a target for anyone and I can then take everything from the bodies. Seems too easy.

It's true. I got 5 or 6 fusion cores from the BoS knights and Railroad Heavy armor just like that.

Well I had deacon with me on bunker hill (sided with the railroad) apart from some snarky comments towards the institute (before I screwed them) everything was ok.

On my first playthrough I took Dogmeat (on some quests I prefer a "neutral" follower like him lol).. he was also handy for picking up all that heavy Railroad and BoS armor afterwards. The second time I just went alone - the Institute courser is with you anyway. You can get to the escaped synths down below without killing anyone if you don't want (I just destroyed a few turrets)- they'll all kill each other eventually anyway. :)

If you do happen to kill anyone on the way, it won't affect your relationship with that faction.

I wanted to warn the Railroad prior to the Bunker Hill battle but the only option that woman gave me was to decide to join them or the minutemen.
Do I first have to make a decision before being able to warn about the quest?

Yeah, I think so.
However you can still dump the Railroad and join the MM later... I think. I haven't tried it yet tbh. I'm HOPING I can rejoin the MM anyway.. Desdemona is a bit of a fruitcake.

I don't think it's particularly necessary to warn her though. It will just mean there are more Railroad Agents on the ground at Bunker Hill if you do.

Yes, you have to say you join them. You can join all the factions and do their quests and radiant quests until you are ready to decide which one to do the endgame with.

As soon as I reach Bunker Hill entrance I go down to the alley where the courser is. I kill him immediately without letting him tell me off for being late. Because of course I have informed the BOS and the RR for the fun of everyone joining in the fight. With the courser dead the BOS will start the fight.

You can then just wait at the entrance until it is over and start looting. Or you can go to where the synths are and either use their recall codes if you want to side with the Institute or let them go if you do not. And then wait until you can loot the bodies.
there's actually 4 factions you can choose from :steamhappy:

Side Note, Piper hates the BoS on what they represent. Honestly, feels like Ulfric when I am talking to Maxson. Join us or die attitude.

^^You don't really need to kill the courser though. - Unless you particularly want to I guess.
I didn't kill the Courser, completed the mission for Father as requested.. looted the bodies afterwards (in this instance it was all synth and Railroad bodies on the ground, the BoS soldiers were still standing around).... However... the next day I had to go to Bunker Hill for something and all the BoS soldiers were lying dead too, so I looted their corpses too.

All factions are happy.

I told the Railroad lady that I wished to stay with the minutemen. She was understanding but there was never an option to tell her about Bunker Hill.
So I ended up telling no one.
I went there with Dogmeat and waited until I was in the room with the synths and the courser. I first killed him and intended to let the synths go but the quest
instructed me to "attend to the synths" so I had to kill them.
Now this is where a bug came into play. I know the courser is dead because I removed his uniform but the quest still shows that he is alive.
I think it also said "kill the courser" A marker also showed where he was.
(I hope he does not tell Father that I was lying when I said we were ambushed. LOL)

^^lol
On my first playthrough I didn't know what the heck I was supposed to be doing with that quest. I ended up letting the first synth go, upon which the courser immediately became hostile and I got the message to kill him - which I did. Then I let the rest of the synths go.
When I returned to Father he told me off for making a complete shambles of the mission but then still offered me the role of Director of the Institute later...haha
Honestly the plot of this game doesn't make any logical sense sometimes!

Out of curiousity - because you hadn't informed any of the factions about Bunker Hill, did no-one turn up in your game to fight each other?
