Building a water Purifier to get purified water how???
I know there's a way to get purified water from the purifier but I can't remember how. Any one remember. It would really help to have a source of water in Snctuary!

Empty bottles, or so I've heard. (Assuming that's what you mean)

The water is provided to your settlers and any significant surplus is placed in the workshop as bottles. I don't know the exact figures you need to create a surplus. I have far more water than needed at Egret Tours Marina, but I only find about five bottles in the WS every now and then.

Step 1 - Find a well (spring water only), there are plenty in the game if you know where to look.
Step 2 - Find an untarnished metal bucket - has to be untarnished or the water won't be pure.
Step 3 - Assign Marcy Long to the 24 hour task of carting pails of water to and from Sanctuary.

I'll post the serious answer in a minute.

side note. if your settlement doesnt have a lot of water to place purifiers in,

1 you can build a purifier in the water
2 place a cement foundation next to it
3 HOLD E to select all (so you can move foundation and purifier at the same time)
4 you can move the purifier to dry land now and it will still work.
5 delete foundation so purifier only remains.
you can get like 500 water in a settlement easy with just a puddle of water

do this in your most visited settlements and you can replinish water easy and never run out

this. To actually drink water, you need one of the water pumps, i beleive. I tried drinking from my purifier and failed. So i made one of those old hand-lever pumps and had no problem drinking.

too bad this isn't a serious answer. It would give a use to Marcy.

I would like to add to this that if you currently have any "Purified Water" within your workshop inventory (i.e. Sanctuary workshop bench), then simply remove those (put 'em somewhere else, use 'em, or sell 'em if you'd like). This will allow the "Purified Water" [from your purifier] to be placed in the workshop inventory.

Ok... serious answer now.
1. Put a small water purifer (which supplies 10 water) in the river at the bottom of Sanctuary Hills. You'll easily find some suitable spots.
(If you want more water build a small industrial size purifier - this requires a medium size generator to power.)
2. Build a small generator on the ground just up on the sidewalk next to the water. Connect with a wire by highlighting the generator (or purifier) in Workshop mode and pressing SPACE key to connect to the other one.

Voila! Fresh Evian water straight to your workbench.

There is a well in the woods near Sanctuary. I'll admit that it's not easy to find but it's there. Once you find it, you need to bring a settler to it so that they can report it to Sturges. Once Sturges knows about it, you'll have to pass a hard dialogue challenge and if you succeed, he will tell you to come back in about a week, so he can study and build the machine you will need. Sleep 7 x 24 hours in Sanctuary and then go see Sturges. Once you get the plan, he will ask for parts. I don't want to spoil the game for you so I'll just say that you'll have to do a few trips to get the parts. Once you have the parts and you handed them over to Sturges, he will ask you to wait 3 days to build the water dispenser. Sleep 3 x 24h in Sanctuary and go see Sturges. He will have the water dispenser for you. If you wish to have cold water, you will need a working fridge. Again, plans can be found in an unmarked cave, near the Glowing Sea. Find the plans and give to Sturges. Follow what he says to the letter and you'll have not only pure water but COOL fresh pure water to drink that will give you +60HP and remove 10% rads.

OR you could always produce a bit more water than you settlement needs and get the water from the workbench... but it's less fun.

are you serious, instant ocean? I might have to look for that.

As serious as the OP is. I mean, getting purified water in Fallout has to be one of the biggest challenges in the game. That is why I know these little secret things... wink .... wink...
