Cambridge police station "check your fire" glitch [FIXED]

I was playing fallout when I heard gunfire near Cambridge Police Station so went and I investigated and saw a few ghouls.I killed them but it never said that I had helped them (in the quest) so i went to talk to Paladin Danse and he said "check your fire" and im like -_-. so then I proceed to reload the save but nothing changed. so i came here looking for help.

Ahhh, thanks Hyborian King. I think that was exactly the way I read somewhere how to handle the "console-fallout" *badumtz* With the console tip, your advice for (console) complications in the aftermath, and the instructions to do it without console mentioned earlier by me we should have covered more or less all eventualities.

LOLL. For a moment I thought "croaker" meant "ugly bird" or something and felt slightly insulted! hehe
I haven't played FO4 for months now, btw (keep meaning to go back) but it's interesting to see this thread continue.

I had this bug, I'm too ahead to load a previous save and I already did the molecular level. Noe what? I need danse to open the police station so i can do the eddie winters quest.

To avoid this "bug" the female BoS npc must not down, she has to stay standing from the moment you recieve the quest until you succesfully defend. If she downs in the process you will encounter the bug.

The problem is, that it's not just caused if she gets down, or not. That only impacts the dialogue afterwards. Had already seen a YT-vid stating the same claim (also showing the scene), but that could later be disproved. It's just a popular theory.
It's from one or more glitching ghouls that fell through the ground, or appeared on some other inacessible spots. Some circumvented that via console - what can cause follow-up bugs coming from that (but these can be circumvented or ignored again). If you are not playing on PC, or play on survival, there is of course no command-console. For that the only verified way I know of is via "the molecular level", but "only" if it's done exactly the right way, as depicted some posts back. Everything else I read on the web (Again: I don't speak about console commands) is often just hearsay or just seemed to work for someone... because it didn't happen to him at all that a ghoul glitched through the ground and the specific run. For some it does even never happen (as far as they are aware of). Until it happened. This way several "theories" have been broken, but it could quite fast be pinpoint to a (most often single) ghoul that just can't be reached or shot, making the quest unsolveable. A few folks have digged into that with the console, when it happened in a regular walkthrough, so they found the unreachable ghoul. And without console there is no other way than the molecular level.So if you already "did" that quest "before" even doing this very specific quest Crossroad_Demon14, I see no other way to make it work furtheron in this direction.

The setstage command worked for me too.

some of the missions seem to just randomly get bugged lol.
On my earlier playthrough it was the first concord mission,the game wanted me to kill raiders that didn't exist. There was just red quest markers floating in the air.

Ghouls falling through the ground are just rng, but if she downs the dialogue is bugged and you can't proceed, so restarting and keeping her alive is the way to go.

You could try Boboscus approach. But as I said before, and also why, I don't think that would help in this specific case. Otherwise you would just have to reload and it would be a matter of minutes to sort out for all and wouldn't even need a "fix" for real at all. It's not like that would "never have been considered" or tried. As innovative as the idea is, reloading the game and not getting shot (including the BoS) was surely in. Also no one of the brotherhood (including the woman) went down for several people with the problem. And that's for whom the thread is for at all in the first place. The people where that can't be solved normally. This steam post was the first topic I found concerning this. Jojos console sadly couldn't help, because of survival. The second having been videos and posts telling me about the "don't let the BoS woman or anyone at all from them" down. Didn't help as well. Only the molecular level fixed it for me, but that took a while to find. And only if you do the dialogue as described before (as well as the approach). So I came back to this thread and posted it after jojos help for everyone that can use a console, to deliver a solution if you can't access the console, out of any reasons.

Level 30 is not really that far into the game, so that might be the best thing to do. XD

I can confirm this is a major cause for the bug as well. For those who cannot solve this issue with Jojo's method, IF Scribe Haylen is down, simply open the console and click on her, and type "resurrect". She will respawn and the quest will correct itself.

I would also like to mention that this should be done before trying Jojo's fix, or rather, make a different save for both methods. If Jojo's fix doesn't work, doing this method on the same save will only break the quest further.
