Cambridge police station "check your fire" glitch [FIXED]

I was playing fallout when I heard gunfire near Cambridge Police Station so went and I investigated and saw a few ghouls.I killed them but it never said that I had helped them (in the quest) so i went to talk to Paladin Danse and he said "check your fire" and im like -_-. so then I proceed to reload the save but nothing changed. so i came here looking for help.

Not sure exactly which glitch this is... was it dance u talked with, or a nameless knight? I suggest saving and reloading. If that doesn't work, go someplace else (a different cell) and wait (or do something else) for at least 24 hours game time, let the game scripts 'settledown.' This >usually< works for me in many glithed situations. Hope so 4 u.

When you were within range of the station in the first place, did you get an automatic quest pop up called "Fire Support", which prompts you to listen to the military radio? If not, reload a previous save, teleport to a location away from the station then approach it on foot again. Once you open the radio it will then say "proceed to the police station". See if that makes a difference. The quest might not be proceeding because you didn't get it.

I tried waiting for 48 hours game time and it made no difference. Re-loaded a previous save , stood by the door and took out the ghouls again. Quest still shows 'assist' message.No message that the area is cleared or message to speak to Danse. There is an icon over Danse's head but if you talk to him ' check your fire, we got hostiles' is all I get. Also tried going back to the airport and the institute tell you to go to Cambridge police station if you want to join up. Same thing all over again. Even tried the radio frequency but just get static. Really frustrating , 111 hours and can't progress any further!

i have tried re loading and tried going to different locations of the place to see if more ghouls spawn but.....nothing. :(

Open the console with the tilde key and try this. Do a hard save beforehand though.

You can copy paste it if you prefer:

SetStage 0005ddab 40

Press enter, close the console and see what happens. It should set the stage of the quest to the point where you speak to Danse.

Also had some funny stuff when I was supposed to follow Danse. He kept appearing and disapearing back to Cambridge Police Station. Anyway ignored him and the Quest log and just completed the mission, whereupon he appeared out of nowhere to say thanks and the Quest log updated correctly. I'll fetch you a complete nurse's uniform - you earned it!
