"Settlement Defense" bug!!!

Very annoying.
I get a message for instance, "Nordhagen Beach needs help defending an attack"...
So I drop what I'm doing, fast travel there and annihilate every enemy I can find.
Then I leave the settlement (Via foot or fast travel) and I get a message,
"Defend Nordhagen Beach failed".....
WTF...
SO I reload a save from Nordhagen Beach I made after all undriendlies were ghosted.
look around....
look around....
look around......
Ok, now I see one unfriendly stuck uncerneath the sand.
I cannot target witrh VATS, Scope, prayers, or wishes...
WTF do I do?
Just accept the mission will be a failure???
That sucks.

Anyway,

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Research the console command to force completion the quest.

Disable clipping by typing tcl in the console, make sure no object id is selected.
Dive into the magical world under the sand and kill that dirty sharker.
Crawl back up and enable clipping by typing tcl again.

oddly enough, I had a few settlements under attack and I did not make it back in time (survival beta) and when I got there, everything was just fine.....aside a few dead mutants here and there. On my wayto the settlement, it gave me the completion notice that it was defended.

Unfortunately these defend quests can glitch, where the enemy spawns in underground and not where they are supposed to. Happened to me at greygarden, had to accept this one as a failure and fix a water pump afterwards. Funniest one I have seen is a supermutant stuck in a concrete foundation wall and had to wait until it glitched thru the concrete. Same thing at Hangmans alley where they were glitching through the wall from the tunnel behind it.

Funny story about that. I had the sam eissue at Hangmans Alley with a raider in power armor. I started sneaking and it exited combat and went back to hidden. He moved back to the alley and got out of the power armor suit, lol.

Thank-you, this solved my problem perfectly. I just got the game recently, and an Eyebot fell or spawned underground during a settlement attack, and was stuck playing its recording. Fixed just as you described.
