I have permanent Mole Rat disease
This must be because I gave that kid the one shot cure in Vault 81. I've been to several doctors, tried all the herbal remedies I could find .. nothing. I've still got it. It must be because I saved that damn kid's life. I guess that's survival mode for you.

Nah, it's because a molerat in vault 81 hit either you OR a companion. It is VERY important to go in along with very high sneak perk and a silenced weapon. If they hit your or your companion a single time you will get it, the only cure is what you gave the boy. So unfortunately, your stuck with it forever unless you hack it in or use a mod to make it more naturally.

Not a thing of "survival mode"... it's a decision you have to make (one of the few).
You can actually complete the quest with the kid surviving and you not get diseased.
Just don't take any companion with you, don't free any protectron, don't get bitten.

did it several times that way.
and even if you got the disease...it's 10HP. laughable at some point ;)

Survival mode makes this more difficult though.
At least on regular mode you can quicksave your progress and reload if you check your stats and you see the molerat disease icon

every game i did after the first run was survival ;)
and after they made it an "eat our bugs and waste your time" game, i, of course, modded it back to something reasonable ;)

Gee, they make a quest with actual real consequences for your actions, minor consequences, but something at least and there are complaints. I think the mole rat disease is the #1 quest complaint. And then you wonder why there are so few quests with consequences.

I think the chance of getting it is low but still there is a chance. I gave the cure to the boy. I got hit several times by molerats and did not get infected.

Never caught the disease and I freed the protectron and had a companion. Did not even know that you could catch it. Guess I just shot them all before I got hit. Survival btw.

The mole rat disease is one of the most broken effects in the game. You only get it if you get hit by a molerat, so a successful stealth run with plenty of saves throughout should keep it off you, right? NOPE! The game will afflict you with the disease if ANY of the following conditions are met during your run, regardless of difficulty:

  • You are hit (duh)
  • Your current companion is hit (wat)
  • A friendly NPC (like the protectron you can release) is hit (multiple orders of magnitude of wat)

This is one case where I don't mind cheating: the game is BUGGED AS HELL. Open the console and type:
player.additem 00055f10 1
then use the cure on yourself once the quest has been completed.

SIDENOTE: If you did not complete the quest for the school teacher before completing the vault, she is now bugged and you missed a Grognak issue. Type
resetquest 1338b9 setstage 1338b9 100
in the console to start the quest.

EDIT: NO, this will not disable achievements.

I didn't even know.. Im getting good at guessing these things these days...

Want my personal opinion? Half life 3 will be announced in 2017

And the next elder scrolls will be announced in 2019

Also the second big project bethesda said we'd see before we hear about the next elder scrolls, will be sci fi based.

Well, now it's TIME to see if these happen :3 (Please laugh at the pun.. PLEASE!)
