Large amount of mods causing desktop crashing
I took a 2 month break from fallout only to come back to my game being extremely unstable. Not sure if there was an update or something but I left my game in working order last time I played but now it crashes from every little thing.

I spent my morning troubleshooting and taking out mods until the CTD stopped. I ended up taking out 4 mods (can't remember the names) that were stable 2 months before and got the game working

Now I added tons of mods to my game but currently 1/4 of the mods I install cause CTD but also cause an issue where I can't re launch fallout and my steam even crashes (which has never happened before)

The only thing that was different from me playing in April and now was A) the game updated to its current version B) I recently deleted my folder where nexus keeps all the zip files for mods to free up space. I reinstalled Nexus after and restored the folder to be fresh but ever since this the game has become unstable.

I'd say update your mods, but I kind of don't think this is a mod issue if it's crashing Steam itself. It might be annoying if you have a lot of mods, but I recommend redownloading them all, and updating them. Make a copy of the plugins folder so you know your load order, or download LOOT. If I'm wrong and it is a modding issue, that should help

"guys whats wrong"

rant aside, check if mods are update /conflictions with other mods
also double take on scritp exsenteder that keeps having to update each time fallout does (if you use that)

It sure would have been pretty helpful if you actually bothered to take note of the mods that were causing your crashes.

You know.. maybe help OTHER people while you are asking for help.

I know, that's a crazy idea.

Would a script extender cause the game to lag? If so what type of script would do that?

Mods crash the game only when they conflict another mod. What worked before, might not work together with the update due to using the same mod. Just deactivate mods until it doesn't crash. Make sure all mods are up to date.

Mods touching the same stuff tend to make problems.
Sometimes they are just not compatible, other times changing the load order will stop the crashes.
Mods will just overwrite each other partially (leveled lists for example).
So if you don't know anything about mods (and i'm still learning) don't overload your game with them.
Install one at a time (and check what happens if it get's disabled somehow).

If this is too much of a hassle for you.... play vanilla.
Really... otherwise you'll always have problems.

Heh, I know a ton about mods and don't have any overlapping mods, but still get these CTDs.

I just haven't been bothered enough to uninstall and reinstall one by one until I find the culprits.

I'm told that scripts are actually the thing that will lag this engine out the MOST, though I'm not fully certain on if it's just new scripts in general or a specific type.

If you're using mods that use F4SE and you just came back to playing the game after a 2 month break, you need to update F4SE to 0.1.19 and you need to update all the mods that use it.

Also, I suggest another two month break, Bethesda's latest patch broke settlers and settlements

Ok, this obviously isn't some simple dirty mod that I just have to remove my game is fully bugged out.

Like I already said in the OP I did troubleshooting and took all the dirty unworking mods out that caused CTD. The problem is my failure rate for installing mods has jumped up 1/4 mods I install cause CTD, for example I just installed 3 mods this morning and got a CTD, I restarted my PC and unchecked a mod called Craftable Perk Chart Poster and got the game to work again. The mod page literally says " Works with everything! It's a custom nif and uses the vanilla perkchart textures, so yeah...." How is it conflicting with something then? Thats not the only one, heres all the current mods that cause CTD

-Multiple floors sandboxing
-Alternate start
-Do it yourshelf
-Unique Uniques( but this one is even stranger I had this mod installed and played for an hour and a half, stopped playing and went back a few hours later and got CTD without installing a single mod. I took this mod out and it was fine)
-M4A1_SOPMOD

All entirely different in what type of mods

Theres also the fact that steam crashes after CTD. Ive never heard of steam crashing because of a mod.

So please stop with all the lolz XD modz crash da game dahhh
