Lag caused by settlement resources?
Since contraptions came out I have amassed quite a bit of resources (for me) in one settlement. The problem I'm now having is that when building in my settlement I get a lot of lag. This happens when I place things from the build menu, craft items, and move resources directly from a workbench. Anything that has to do with adding or removing resources from the settlement. Sometimes it can take from a few seconds to as long as a minute before completing the action. Has anyone had an issue like this and figured out a way to fix it?

On a side note I am also having issues assigning settlers to jobs. I assign, they acknowlege the assignment, and basically nothing happens.

What settlement are you working in? The delay in assigning settlers has been an ongoing issue with Abernathy Farm, for instance. The menu speed and functionality directly correlates to the FPS you are getting in an area - if your game is chugging to display the area then the menus are also going to be slow. I can see this in Home Plate in my game because I added workbenches in various parts of the space, and the fog in there makes my FPS drop when facing certain areas. Opening the workshop while in one of the low-FPS corners makes the menu slow, too.
Is it just that one specific settlement?

Assignment is mostly in Sanctuary. The lag in also in Sanctuary. Don't have a whole lot built either outside of my factory.

Would you be able to try a different settlement for the time being? We can't know if it's because your system can't handle all the things you've built in Sanctuary, or if it's an actual bug or glitch, or what have you. My money is on the former. Your 740GT is pretty outdated

Do you know what kind of FPS you are getting? I've seen that if I open a workshop while getting less than 30 FPS that the menu is slow, including the Pip Boy. Just moving the cursor across the Pip Boy map is clearly impacted for me. If your framerates are too low then that is probably the root cause.

This is a well known bug, Fallout 4 stores every single item in the workshop as it's own separate item reference. Settlers (and automatrons) each poll the workshop to find out what items are in it which results in massive lag as the game has to check the referneces of hundreds of thousands of items.

Build a storage container next to your workshop, move all the items into it, the lag will go away.

There's also a mod out there that fixes this bug by combining all the references into one object.

Are you talking about the Manufacturing Extended mod or something else entirely?

Yep, "Inventory Management Brain" solves the lag, even the vanilla lag bug from simply having too much stuff in the workshop inventory.

I will look into it thanks.

*update*
I downloaded it and used the Inventory Management Brain and it fixed the lag associated with my workshop inventory. Thanks for the tip.

Welcome. Workshops as written by Bestheda are very ad hoc and barely working, it would be nice if they'd fix the bugs associated with them before releasing more workshop DLC.

I just powered up the Inventory Management Brain, and my game has been frozen for a while. It intermittently moves, but then freezes again. Either I put too many resources in my workshop, or I don goof.

Mine did that at first, took a bit but it did finally clear up and fix the issue I was having.

Normally I don't respond to necros except to make jokes :) but I've had this issue myself due to all the crap I have stored in my workshops. However, the lag ONLY happened when I started assigning PROVISIONERS. As soon as I got rid of the provisioners, the lag stopped.

Maybe I'll try it again one day but for now, everything works fine with no provisioners.

In any event, the Inventory Management Brain is a feature in this mod

Thanks for the kind reply. I already have this mod installed, but I cant find anything with Inventory Management Brain. May I ask, is it a machine with a mesh, or is it something with a menu from the terminal or maybe something in the holotape? I cant find anything that mentions this brain thing. I tried looking for screenshots of it but cant find anything
