Armour
So...in the first half of the game, I've found that combat armour had the best stats. However, now that I'm finding sturdy and tough armour, they're not the best anymore? Or am I just missing something?

They're upgrades. If you go to an Armourbench (Not in game so not sure what it's called) you can use materials to upgrade your standard Combat Armour into Sturdy Combat Armour etc

There are three levels to all outer armors minus helmets. Combat is still the best, but the sturdy and heavy versions are better. The heavy version looks like combat armor should, it fully covers you. So keep an eye out for sturdy and heavy combat armors. They're easy to find if you fight gunners a lot.

^ there is a difference between upgrades and base armors. You can upgrade a heavy armor to be even better than the base heavy.

Heavy Combat Armor I think is the best all around armor if you want DR/ER. Metal Armor provides the highest DR, but less ER, and Leather has more ER and less DR. Synth Armor is kind of between Leather and Combat Armor with not as much DR as Combat, but not as much ER as Leather. I think... anyways. Combat is the inbetween armor, provides a good amount of both but not the most of either.

Tried to help someone and will again if I think I can. I was wrong, get over it?

I've figured the differences between leather, metal, synth and combat armour. However, the sturdy metal armour pieces that I've found are better then the sturdy combat pieces (of the same piece) that I've found.

I haven't seen any heavy combat armour yet but the sturdy combat armour is providing less protection then the tough metal armour.

Sorry

@Inardesco as someone said already each armor has its benefits, metal high ballistic res but low energy res and so on... for example sturdy metal can be better than regular combat.

I don't have any regular "old" armours anymore, aside fom the helmet. They're all sturdy/tough armours but some of the metal tough armour have better stats then the combat tough armour which shouldn't be the case, since the "old" combat armour had better stats then the metal armour.

As far as the heavy sets go:

Raider Armor: Not just the worst set but truly horrible. There are many outfits that outclass this set.
Leather Armor: Lowest Ballistic DR (barring Raider Armor), Second Highest Energy DR (slightly inferior to Synth Armor)
Metal Armor: Highest Ballistic DR, Lowest Energy DR (barring Raider Armor, Metal Armor's Energy DR is far worse than Combat Armor's Ballistic DR)
Combat Armor: Third Highest Ballistic DR, Third Highest Energy DR
Synth Armor: Second Highest Ballistic DR, Highest Energy DR

There's also the dlc armors:

Automatron adds Robot Armor, basically being Metal 2.0, with higher BR, but heavier.
Far harbor adds Marine Combat Armor which is the strongest non-powered armor in all catagories.

All armor sets come in light, medium and heavy varieties. There is a mod which allows to change that type at the armor bench, if you have armorer 3/4. You can find full sets of everything, but fabricating a matching set this way is of course faster.

As Outstanding said, Marine Armor is the strongest one around now, although the difference isn't that much.

Well, I have the season pass but I haven't touched the main story yet, let alone Automatron.
