The Secret Of Cabot House Nick Valentine Companion Guide (SPOILERS)
If there are people who have still not completed the storyline like me, I believe this might be useful information as I couldn't find it when I needed to. So in the end of the Cabot mission series you will face a really tough decision either to kill or release Lorenzo Cabot. The decision you make will affect your relationship with your companion who in my case was Nick Valentine. The easiest option would be to turn off all the generators and kill Lorenzo in the cell but in that case in order to get the magazine inside Lorenzo's cell, you would have to open the door after Lorenzo has died and Nick will dislike it,

So here's what I did:

After killing the raiders, I opened Lorenzo's cell door and let him out. Nick didn't mind that. During the conversation where he revealed his plans to kill his family and asked you to join him, I said "NO" and that I never agreed to kill anyone. Right after the conversation ended I attacked and killed Lorenzo while he was still in the big room where the cell is. Nick didn't mind that either.

Back in the Cabot house I told Jack that "I didn't know who was telling the truth" and that "Lorenzo is dead". I also said that "I am sorry for your loss" which Nick actually liked. When Jack pays you 500 caps and dismisses you, make sure to ask for more as he also told me to come back in a week, when he would give me the Lorenzo's artifact gun.

So that's how I managed to complete the morally difficult mission without Nick Valentine disliking me for once and actually liking me instead. I also managed to obtain the gun so I hope it might help some of you who are still struggling with the choice.

Nothing bad happens if companions dislike the occasion decision mate.
Your getting too worried about it. Just play how you feel not how fictional companions feel.

Companions disliking something is only really a problem when they dislike a common action like lockpicking. (Im looking at you strong).

actaully if you kill lorenzo via the gas you can then open the cell and aquire all the stuff.
Im pretty sure if you Dismiss Nick before doing the final Cabot quest you'll suffer no negative affinity with him.

I laugh at companions 'disliking' things (especially my pre-war talking toaster, Clodsworth).

Must be a bug...no proof that siding with lorenzo makes companion hostile.
Though players have reported that killing the sentry bot outside the house makes companions hostile straight away or when dismissed. Since its essentially a non hostile npc despite him shadowing you.

Goodbye. :)

Why not just take the dislike and immediately neutralize it by hacking one (1) terminal?

I barely remember that quest, but do remember that Lorenzo turned hostile unexpectedly and I had to kill him. Didn't have a companion with me at the time, so none of that came into play for me.

You still get some mystery serum if you kill Lorenzo. Since the game pretty much forced me to kill Lorenzo (it might have been a case where exiting my power armor inexplicably made him hostile - same thing happened with The Mechanist the first time I ended that DLC) I feel justified in spawnduping more mystery serum if I need to.
