set up the right way (called "survival" in it's settings) it doesn't even feel like cheating since you have to work for your wanted legendary. you will just have to collect 8 to 12 random legendaries, scrap them and then add your wanted one.
one of my favourite mods ;)
but everyting to it's own.

I use it and it works well. when ya install it in NMM set it to 50x and 100%
it basicly will turn the game into borderlands style, lots and lots of unique weapons and armor to choose from.
I've heard some people make a save, then go check spots with legendary enemies. Something like if one drops a combat rifle, he'll always drop a combat rifle just it will be a different modifier on it on next game load. But I don't know if like a piece of his armor could become legendary instead of his weapon since I never tried it.
Also, what type of weapon are you looking for?
Like minigun would be Super Mutants or BoS in Power Armor.
Rifles come from Raiders or gunners. Assault Rifles are good from Raiders, Gunners, BoS.
Mirelurks are probably my favorite to farm, cause you can cripple them at lower levels, seem to drop more weapons than humanoids, and since they don't use weapons the type of weapon possible seems larger than humanoids.
In the current survival I've found some spots will respawn. Like west of Hangman's Alley, before the dead Chemist trader's house, there's busted down houses and a diner. On my save, two groups always seem to be fighting there. Sometimes one will be legendary.
Also, east of Diamond City, maybe two blocks, there's one of those large red/white steel buildings, the lobby is open with all the windows blown out. There I find gunners, children of atom, raiders, supermutants, and behind them is more raiders. There's always something going on there, maybe sometimes legendaries.
I'm not sure how many other road block type spawns there are like these.
I use a fully upgraded Assault rifle with the title of "Blizzard's Fury II." the first Blizzard's Fury was an Institute rifle, because the blue laser fit really well with the winter theme. I'm a hugely massive fan of winter and everything having to do with it, and yesterday I found a freezing 10mm Pistol on a Legendary Raider, which made me aware of the existence of the Freezing ability.
Specifically, I want the Freezing Assault Rifle to make a Blizzard's Fury III out of. It would be too perfect.
To be honest, I want to collect every gun in the game with a Freezing ability on it, but preferrably the Assault rifle to make it into my new gun.
"Fires an additional projectile" does double damage, right? That would be useful, considering Blizzard's Fury II isn't that great against higher level enemies. It gets the job done, but not in under five shots, like I'd wish.
The saving and loading doesn't work, I tried it.
If I must, I'll use console commands, and I'll remove caps from my inventory, making it as if I purchased it from life itself. Also, that mod might be a good idea.
On an unrelated topic, I use a fully upgraded set of Heavy Combat Armor, (Which appears white with the Polymer modification) and I dubbed it Blizzard Armor.
Still want to find a mod somewhere that makes Army Fatigues white to complete the look...

In the trade-in-only version, or in the survival version, it's pretty balanced. You scrap other legendary weapons or armors you don't want, get legendary tokens, and after 5-8 legendary scrapped, you can make your own.
So with some work you can have your freezing AR without having to savescum or console it out.
don't forget the Far harbour patch.

Second, I don't have Far Harbor yet.
Third, thanks for this. I'll try it out.
Would it be possible to use the mod to get my Legendary, then disable the mod and still have it?
Feels cheaty, I still want to find a Freezing Assault Rifle on my own.
At the very least, a legendary Assault rifle which I can then replace the mod on.
I am allowed to use console commands to get a Legendary modfication on a gun, but in return I must remove 10,000 Caps from my inventory, effectively setting the price for a modification to 10k.
Thankfully I have 30k.
