Bought 50 aluminium trade pack thing
So I bought 50 aluminium from a merchant (not the junk items but aluminium) and it said it's gonna be in a workbench. There's no aluminium in the workbenches or my inventory. I can see the aluminium (50) in my power armor work bench so it has to be somewhere in that settlement right? But it only shows up in power armor workbench, otherones says I got zero aluminium. Is that a bug?

When you buy shipments, they are stored along with all other junk in the workbench when you open the inventory of one and press T. The aluminum shipment acts like any other item containing aluminum and is broken down into 50 or less aluminum whenever it is pulled for crafting.

It should show up in the junk section of your inventory as "Shipment of aluminum". It is essentially a piece of junk that is made out of aluminum and has no weight. If you stored all junk in a workshop it should be there. That doesn't explain why you only see it at a power armor workbench though.

You must bring it to any settlement, drop it on the floor, and break it down in workshop mode. Here you go, your 50 units of aluminium.

That isn't necessary, that's just an extra step. The workbench breaks down items automatically for you upon crafting and building.

This is a fix to avoid a duplication bug that existed in earlier patches. It is an item worth 50 aluminum.

Like Andromalius says, you simply buy it (it's in your inventory) then you dump it in a workbench as junk.

Note: my understanding is that it's NOT in a usable form while in your inventory and showing as "Shipment of..." so, it really has to be popped into a Workbench for use and cannot be used at random non-owned Weapon or Armour workbenches dotted around.

Actually, you can use it in your inventory I believe. Shipments are like any other junk item that contains materials, except that they have no weight. The reason they have no weight is that you're supposed to believe that you're not buying the actual materials themselves, but you're ordering a shipment to whichever workbench it's placed. But the more I think of it, the more I'm starting to think that shipments are actually VERY efficient to bring with you for repairs and crafting. Until they're used and are broken down into parts, they weigh nothing, which is great for survival mode power armor maintenance.

Interesting. Previously I could never use the contents of a Shipment until popping in into one of my Workbenches. Still, I've not bought a shipment since v1.4 as I have tonnes of junk now - I'm a bit of a hoarding when out and about lol.

I might be wrong. It does seem a bit cheaty.
I just bought another shipment and can see it in the workbenches. However I can't find the aluminium shipment anywhere else than the power armor work bench while I'm crafting it. Not if I press R and check what is in it. And it's not in my inventory. I also checked other merchant who sold 25 aluminium shipment for the same price I bought the 50 with (1400caps)... I think there's some bug going on

You do realize the power armor repair station in Diamond City is NOT connected to your workbench right?

Perfectly explained if he is using the repair station in the market and then wondering why he can not see it in Home Plate workbench.

That is not a bug, that is someone jumping to the conclusion that all repair stations are connected to your workshops. Amazing how people jump to bug conclusions rather than seeing if they are doing something wrong.

Yes you can use it while in your inventory. However any "leftovers" are going to be dumped into your inventory. Not a big deal with some shipments, but a shipment of 200 concrete can suck if you forget to store it into a workshop first.

You can also drop them on the ground and scrap them. However you run the risk of "losing sight" of them in the ground clutter.

The irony is strong in this one... "jumping in to the conclusion"... yea.

I know those are not connected. The power armor workbench which has the 50 aluminium is in my settlement and the weapon/armor/settlement workbenches are all in in that exactly same settlement.

Like holy hell is this the most ironic thing of the year?
