Haha, good one.
What are your system specs?
16GB 1600 RAM
GTX 970
I'm telling you, I know this rig can run Fallout 4 at 60fps. I didn't have to change any settings to keep my fps constant when it was first released, and I don't understand why it's giving me issues now.
I am well aware of this, which is why I am looking for a way to lock my monitor to 60hz and also have Fallout 4 run at 60fps. I literally did this yesterday and had no issues, but now it seems that Fallout 4 wants to run at half my refresh rate.
I had the game reset some graphics settings on me for no apparent reason one time. And actually, now that I think about it, I think it reset on me when I downloaded the beta for survival. Did you download the beta by any chance?
Anyhow, there's a couple settings in the options that impact performance in big ways. Turn "Weapon Debris" down, its a PhysX accelerated particle system. Its actually called "FLex," which is Nvidia's new tech.
Even with my 980 SC, I get fps drops with "Weapon Debris" on. Another thing you can check is V-sync in the Nvidia control panel. Make sure you have it enabled, or your fps in-game will be uncapped. You've got a 144hz screen, so it has a range of refresh rates the game may be choosing at random. Next, make sure V-sync is on in the options before launching.
So yeah, make sure vsync is forced through both Nvidia control panel, and the game settings. Also, unless you already did this, a computer restart wouldn't be a bad thing to try.
To disable VSYNC in the game, edit BOTH Fallout4Prefs.ini files and change iPresentInterval=0. Then enable VSYNC at the card and set the Frame Limiter to whatever frames you want. For NVIDIA cards you use NVIDIA Inspector and there's a pretty straightforward tutorial on youtube for setting frame limits. I don't know about other cards.
Your advice is as bad as your typing. You have no idea how their rig is configured at the hardware level and you're telling them to double the frame limiter and then lock the files up.
if on an AMD card I'm not sure.
Duderestart - please go give bad advice to people who don't know what they're doing, or just get off the forums entirely.
I did find a fix that worked for my nvidia system, that I found on a seperate thread, by =VOC= Rockit:
"Try this it helped me getting at 60 fps cap
Go to your Desktop, right click the Nvidia Logo at the lower Right of your Desktop. Choose "System Settings" or whatever it is in your Language. Now go to "3D Settings" and Add Fallout.exe to your Programs.
There change "Triple Buffer" to ON.
"Max frames render ahead" to 1.
And finally "V-Sync" on."
It has worked beautifully, and I'm getting no framerate variations around Sanctuary like I was with 60fps/120hz settings.
