Home Base in Survival
I'm not starting to play survival, and its pretty brutal. Despite that, I want to move out of sanctuary. There are way too many downsides, and nearly no upsides to calling that place home

However, I'm not sure where my central location should be. But, this being survival, there are a few requirements.

1. Easily defendable- Constructing walls is really expensive, and while I am willing to do it, i'd like to avoid it if possible, so any settlement with natural defenses would be prefered.

2. Access to water- I can easily make water purifiers, but there has to be some sort of water source, for me and my settlers.

3. Centrally located - No fast travel means that I have to be able to go from mny base, to anywhere else in the map with relative ease, so anything on the extreme sides of the map wouldnt work well, something central would be best.

Does anyone have any ideas that fit one or all of these requirements?

The island or the castle. Plenty of room to build later on down the road.

If you have the wasteland workshop DLC you can use Hangmans Alley too, they added ground based water pumps, not stuck using the blue ones anymore. and its very easy to defend

I was at hangman's alley but I noticed the settlers in there are bugged as hell, they won't move or do anything on one side of the settlement. (without mods it's not fixable)

Hangman's alley is the most centered settlement btw.

So I moved to the Castle and I like it, missile and heavy laser turrets all over the walls, 21 settlers, 5+ brahmins, plenty of space for food, industrial purifiers with around 300 water

It's one of the best settlements, for Survival also. The location might be offset a bit but I personally use the vertibird lately so I don't care.

Other good settlements for survival: Egret tours marina, The slog, Croup manor is also good, walls need some fixing and you can have a fine mansion.

Don't make a home base in Survival. Having to go back and forth is too much of a pain in the ass until you are able to buy the transportation grenades from the BoS. Building up every Settlement to provide beds, food, water, medical help, and a place to sell crap will serve you far better than some useless home base.

Taffington Boathouse is most centrally located site that is obtainable early. Plus on the water.

He can use Taffington Boathouse for North Side and Hangsmans Alley for South side, the 2 best places if he wants central.

I have a couple worries about those, the main one being the Castle. This is survival, and im still low level, so anything is deadly to me. I've not progressed the minutemen far enough along to get it, and the mission itself would be nigh impossible for me

Yea, I gradually shifted my 'main base' toward the center. If anything, it's Hangman's Alley now but my other settlements have what I need. Set up supply lines for all of the settlements and shops for the ones you pass through the most. In addition to the above, I would add County Crossing.

Don't bother with areas that are easy to defend with walls and ♥♥♥♥. Just go to Oberland Station and build a mansion like I did. Give it one doorway and set up a ♥♥♥♥ ton of laser turrets and rocket turrets all over the rooftops.

Then build some sentry robots to defend the perimeter. It's pretty close to the city so it's good for looting and if you want to travel far, just use Vertibird signal flares from the brotherhood of steel.

As to the earlier comment of not having a central main base, that...makes zero sense. I need a place to keep my extra armor, weapons, power armors, ect. Having a safe place consistantly is also important for me

The castle

Alreaddy explained why the castle won't work. I'll try maknig my way to taffington or hangmans, but they are both in some pretty bad territory. Worth a shot, though.

The castle is not too far...but it has its benefit of being a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cool structure.
