Far Harbor: Only 4 Settlements?
I'm kind of surprised that there are only 4 settlements in FH, and that they're all pretty close together on the north side of the island. The ones we got are nice, don't get me wrong, with a lot of space and interesting pre-existing buildings to work with, but I expected more.

I would have loved to have had the drive-in as a settlement, for example. It's huge, flat, and just perfect and would definitely have become my main base. Plenty of other locations that would have made great settlements, too.

there is a mod called "Conquest - Build New Settlements and Camping by Chesko" on the nexus that lets you build 10 new settlements where ever you want.

How is it? Is it stable? I've been trying to keep my mods small, mostly cosmetic stuff and bug fixes, though I did get We Are The Minutemen.

I was expecting the Farm on cranberry island to be a settlement :(

Most of the settlements are in poor condition with no flat land to build on

And loads of junk
Koala: That's why I use either concrete or the wooden stilts foundations, they give you a lot more leeway for building.

As far as the junk goes, I've been using the "scrap everything" mod and it's a lifesaver.

Tell you what though, the lumber mill... scrap the processing building as one item and you've got a *massive* flat surface already laid out in shack floors.

I cleared it and ignored it :) Decided to try 'integral living' as a design concept, a building that settlers should, in theory, never have reason to set foot outside it's walls.

A work in progress, but flat land shouldn't ever really stop settlement building, just forces the creativity.

Longfellow's Island is not flat, but you can clear / scrap just about everything apart from his shack. You can even take away the poor guy's toilet.

Very interesting. I also put a four story concrete structure on the water at the same spot! But I put all the plants along the walk way. Maybe I'll reconsider.

The only settlement that allows clearing everything (no buildings at all) is Dalton Farm

The lumber mill is great as said earlier. You can rip out most everything inside, giving yourself huge interior spaces. The only problem I had with it was powering the whole building. You really have to carpet bomb it with pylons and connectors to get power everywhere. If you take the time, you can "patch" some of the walls and holes in the roof with strategically placed walls and roofs of your own, but it takes some patience.

I really really wish South Harbor had been settleable. Its an awesome location, scenic, and has all those buildings. In fact, I think there's every kind of craftable workshop located in structures there, except for the settlement workshop.

I found Dalton Farm and fell in love with how clear I could make it. I haven't unlocked the other locations in FH but so far I think Dalton Farm is my favorite settlement location.

You're saying... WE REQUIRE ADDITIONAL PYLONS!!??

I used the wall connections instead of pylons. Placing them on the central support beams in the big room with the shelves gives you a straight shot to all of the other rooms and cuts down on ADDITIONAL PYLONS.
