As far as the junk goes, I've been using the "scrap everything" mod and it's a lifesaver.
Tell you what though, the lumber mill... scrap the processing building as one item and you've got a *massive* flat surface already laid out in shack floors.
I cleared it and ignored it :) Decided to try 'integral living' as a design concept, a building that settlers should, in theory, never have reason to set foot outside it's walls.

A work in progress, but flat land shouldn't ever really stop settlement building, just forces the creativity.
perfect place to build cause its all flat.
Very interesting. I also put a four story concrete structure on the water at the same spot! But I put all the plants along the walk way. Maybe I'll reconsider.
The only settlement that allows clearing everything (no buildings at all) is Dalton Farm
I really really wish South Harbor had been settleable. Its an awesome location, scenic, and has all those buildings. In fact, I think there's every kind of craftable workshop located in structures there, except for the settlement workshop.
I found Dalton Farm and fell in love with how clear I could make it. I haven't unlocked the other locations in FH but so far I think Dalton Farm is my favorite settlement location.
You're saying... WE REQUIRE ADDITIONAL PYLONS!!??
I used the wall connections instead of pylons. Placing them on the central support beams in the big room with the shelves gives you a straight shot to all of the other rooms and cuts down on ADDITIONAL PYLONS.
I like this one a lot.
