Deathclaw DNA Stock.
Out of sheer boredom, I'm going to try and figure out what animals were spliced alongside the Jackson's Chameleon.

So obviously I have to take the effects of severe genetic modification and exposure to FEV into account, so there won't be any clear cut answers.

Jackson's Chameleons are rather frail creatures that aren't a threat to anything larger than an insect. Why the US govt. would choose them as a base is beyond me (chameleons don't actually blend into their surroundings.

The first thing I am looking at is the feet and hands. Chameleons have specialized grasping feet that evolved for tree climbing. Hardly accounts for the massive claws that are the Deathclaws namesake, nor the raptor-like feet.

The basic shape of the claws reflects that of a Moniter Lizard (such as a Komodo Dragon), albeit with much longer claws.

The feet and legs are remeniscent of a therapod dinosaur, which scientist could likely pull off by inducing "reverse-evolution" on bird DNA. (This is already being attempted by modern scientists)

The armored skin almost certainly came from crocodile DNA.

The overall posture and presence of close forward facing nostrils leads me to believe that primate DNA may have been introduced to the mix. This would also account for the social heirarchy and protective parenting behaviors observed in deathclaws.

My speculative DNA pool:

40% Jackson's Chameleon
30% Komodo Dragon
5% 'Reverse-Evolved' Ostrich
15% Crocodile
10% Baboon

This is probably completely wrong.

Spare me, I was bored ;)

It would have to be mostly bird dna since it has the bone structure of a bird/dinosaur, lizards like Chameleons are almost completley unrelated to dinosaurs, they made the same mistake with Godzilla 1997.

I know.

I'm just working with the lore they gave me.

The whole chameleon thing is just bollocks really. There is no chameleon in the Deathclaws. Someone mistakingly thought that chameleons could actually camouflage their bodies because of an urban myth. However chameleons cannot camouflage their bodies to the extent that Deathclaws can. The Deathclaws are more like some vartieties of cephalopods in that regards. And chameleons have very weak skin, are quadrupeds, have cute mitten hands, very short necks, no teeth, long sticky tongues, and slowly move forward by rocking their bodies back and forth to look like a leaf or swaying branch.

Whichever developer said that Deathclaws were mutated from chameleons has never observed a real chameleon in the wild or kept one as a pet.

The game just states that chameleons were used as the genetic base, not that the deathclaws are 100% chameleon.
I thought it was obvious ...................aliens

Deathclaws I think are also part human from what that lab in automatron showed.
