Female (for obvious mod reasons :P)

Male. I only play female when there is jiggle physics, and I'm annoyed F4 doesn't have that.

Female as i always play as a female character if the game allows it (saints row, mass effect, fallout, tes, mmos etc etc) also some of those games are just soo much better for a female protagonist than a male (female courier going against legion in nv for example)

I'm usually male in first person games. Fo4 is mostly 1st person so, male.

My first play through was a male. My 2nd was a female. I liked the RP options I was giving myself as a women so Im playing survival now as a women again.

Im male so im usually male but i didnt think I could do more as a male on any more play throughs.

The womens voice acting is better too!

The story is actually really weird and not well writen for female characters, the male is a combat trained military veteran, with decent survival instincts and general knowledge of how to use powerarmor, which before this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ where everyone and their grandma could use it happened, you needed training. also a lawyer housewife in khakis up to her bellybutton using any kind of weapon is just plain ludacris. she had a LAW DEGREE, she never saw combat, never held a gun, never even left the kitchen (concidering the time period the games based off of). how the ♥♥♥♥ is the female protag gonna find her kidnapped child in the middle of post nuclear ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nowhere, with that kind of back story. So male character is the only Story route to take, female if your just goofing around and blowing ♥♥♥♥ up.

Well how about lawyer by day, blind crime fighting vigilante by night.

You don't at all know anything about Nora besides the fact that she is married, a mother, and a lawyer. It would make sense for Nate to teach her how to use a firearm since there is a massive war going on and he has the knowlegde. Mitilias are all the rage these days and it makes sense that there would be local militias led by vets like Nate that would teach everyone how to survive. Or she could have been in the scouts as a child and learned basic survival techniques that way.

The horrible quasi 50s setting doesn't mean that women are treated as dinner making baby factories, and the fact that Nora is a lawyer attest to that.

Plenty of ways to rationalize her being an effective character.

Generally I play females in Bethesda games, so I can put it into 3rd person and follow them. The Programmers/designers at Beth apparently spent a lot of time following women and watching them walk.

Female. The voice acting always seems a tad better for the female characters. IMO.

You can use enclave power armour in Fallout 2 without any training, so that '♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥' happened quite some time ago.
Power armour training was always just a game mechanic to lock away powerful endgame gear until you reached a certain point in game without relying on arbitrary level-requirements for items.
It wouldn't really make sense for FO4, since power armour is treated more like a vehicle instead of armour and there are a lot more variations/upgrades for it.

Have you at least tried crossdressing? It's way more fun.
