Modifying Pipe Weapons, A waste Of Time
Got a .45 Pipe Revolver Special, hurray! It added 15 points of plasma damage for a total, after I upgraded it as much as possible, of 74 points of damage. I have barely finished at the weapons bench when Trash Can Carla comes by with the first combat rifle I've seen this playthrough.

After some minor upgrades it does more damage than the .45 revolver special with plasma damage. It fires faster, and its clip holds 40 bullets to the revolver rifle's pitiful 6. The revolver rifle is now useless. I arm one of my settlers with my obsolete weapon.

It's typical of the game. You're stuck with some pretty miserable equipment early on, which can only slowly be upgraded. About the time you have tuned it up as high as it will go, along comes a conventional weapon that completely outclasses it.

Now I wonder to myself how many more mini turrets I could have built if I hadn't wasted all that oil trying to upgrade my pipe weapons. It's a waste of oil.

Pipe revolvers are always worthless, but the regular pipe guns are cheap to use early on. The Drumlin Diner has a silenced bolt action pipe pistol which is extremely useful early on since you can't make silencers for any weapon until gun nut 2. How you fully upgraded your pipe revolver before ever finding a better one is a bit beyond me though.

Take a pipe pistol turn it into a submachine gun, pistol grip, stub barrel, silencer, 48 round mag, glow sights, upgrade your automatic weapons perk. Now if I can ever get a legendary one I will be set.

I always carry one.

10mm, 38 SMG, Sword, 50 Cal rifle.

They are for renaming so you can tell which supply line they are currently running.

They're the most reliable way to get a suppressed .50 caliber rifle w/ a recon scope by level 14.

I use a armor piercing pipe pistol. It works well but its really the only use for the pipes in the long run I find.

I used a .308 pipe pistol for quite a while early on - made a lot of heads explode with that one.

The weapon I use exclusively once I attain it is the .50 cal Hunting Rifle. Don't need anything more.

Junk weaponry at its finest.

Fallout 3 was similar. By the time you got all the parts needed to build the rail gun other conventional weapons had made it useless.

I use pipe weapons. Mainly cause they remind me of the Junk Plasma Cutter From Dead Space 2. Now I want a Pipe Laser weapon of some sort.

So yes I use them. I'm really enjoying my Kneecapper .38 auto. Makes Killing Enemies Painfully slow for them. Payback for all the grief they gave me when I was just fresh out of the Vault.

Well, I guess that's progression for you. Besides, can't have everyone going around with awesome weapons; IMO, that would make no sense. Also, I imagine you just got really lucky with that combat rifle.

Frankly, they're just there to demo the weapon mod system at the start of the game, wowing you with the customization before you realize that it's pretty much a straight upgrade system and Beth's resources would have been better spent making a wider variety of base weapons and uniques that are actually unique.

when the ammo for them is so much, you can either use them exclusively to rain death on everything at early level and save up on the good ammo, or use the pipe ammo as currency..

Understand then it equates to lazy programming on a game system hyped up to be deep and awesome, which then ultimately had no impact on the game.

never used em. I got a Penetrating Plasma pistl drop 30 mintes out of the vault. didn't even know they *could* drop that early.
