water farm(not sanctuary) in survival mode (no fast travel) easy caps
TLDR: you can put water pumps onto garden plots in the air, on concrete, wherever the hell you want. so any settlement could be a major water producing facility now.

so i know that probably a majority of fallout 4 players who know anything bout makin some caps have like 700+ water production in sanctuary. fast travel away, sleep/wait for a day or two, go back boom 600 purified water. however, in survival mode sanctuary is extremely far away from prime vendors (and shipment sellers) like diamond city, goodneighbor, vault 81, and bunker hill. so when i started survival mode i needed to find a new water farming settlement (s). now obviously if you look at a settlement map hangman's alley is prime real estate, almost on top of diamond city, within spitting distance of vault 81, and pretty close to goodneighbor and bunker hill (i dont usually go to bunker hill since only 1 mobile merchant is usually in). but bomjus, hangman's alley has no access to water, what are you talking about?? well, youre not wrong. but thanks to our friends at bethesda you can now do this

sidenote: if a dev or someone sees this or finds out about this... uh dont fix it or let us run pipes from the pumps to the ground or something.

you can place the fertlized dirt plots on top of flooring and place the new powered water pumps on them. basically you can make a vertical water farm above the ground in hangman's alley. at the time of the screenshot i didnt have the materials for more pumps so i was using basic water pumps. right now hangmans alley is producing 450 water for me and i get ~330 purified water per production cycle.i could fit more and MAYBE squeeze out 600 water production but it would get real cramped. (plus theres the build limit if you didnt mod it out)

now this doesnt seem like much compared to what sanctuary can put out. BUT it is right in the center of fallout 4's biggest vendor settlements. also south south east of hangman's alley is another prime water settlement, egret tours marina

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=685524204

now this has actual water you can put pumps in so it can get over 700 production easy, and you can put pumps on the ground too if you really want to go nuts. its a short jog southwards for some real crazy profit. if you want to make crazy money fast just run between the two. i would recommend strong back, lone wanderer, dogmeat, and power armor, or a companion with a lot of carry weight. go to one, grab the water, sleep for 24-48 hours (at the settlement you just picked the water up from), go back to the other settlement, rinse repeat. you can put all 6 craftable vendors in hangman's alley, invest 500 caps in them, and then sell the water right to them for 4-6k caps. and since its all so close to the city vendors its extremely easy to buy shipments, ammo, and other goodies to make your survival mode journey less difficult. hope this helps people get rich.

EDIT: I have not tested this myself but if the fertilization plot + pump combo holds true anywhere you can turn the mechanists lair into another water production facillity which is in close proximity to the railroad HQ and bunker hill. also bunker hill can be turned into a settlement through quests (havent done it personally). though this is all overkill in my opinion. as long as you have the two aforementioned settlements to run between you wont really need more water to sell. an idea for the truly crazy entrepreneurs out there

UPDATE: there's no option to place the dirt plots in the workshop menu for the mechanists lair so that's a no go. bunker hill would still work though.

Definitely handy. Heck if your PC can handle it you can always use the glitch by throwing weapons on the ground to up the build limit on Hangmans and get even more in. Still handy though.

Damn dude this is beautiful! Until now me and my lvl 70 char have been slogging from Sanctuary and Starlight drive-in as well as the Castle, what i would do is, is walk to taffington if i'm in the East or Hangman's alley if i'm in the west, then up to starlight, and then up to sanctuary, and catch a vertibird back. But Screw that! Time to become a water-baron at hangman's alley! :D

Best regards to you, well done on the ingenuity! :)

if you want to make life EXTREMELY easy AND profit from sanctuary you can use this mod to "craft" purified water in one settlement using the purified water that is at a different settlement. basically you are moving water from one settlement to the other using the supply line. to make yourself feel like you're not cheating the system just think of it as asking your provisioner to bring purified water back from sanctuary on the brahmin. great mod if you dont mind how easy it makes it to make money.

Don't supply lines allow you to access all the water made from other settlements as well?

I've been wondering if the farming plots allow placement of water pumps. Will come in handy even if you're not farming water caps. Like, there is no dirt at the Airport for example, so this will be handy there.

you are correct in terms of keeping your settlers hydrated. supply lines will share excess food and water to settlements to feed and hydrate settlers. however, all excess water produced by a settlement is placed in its respective workshop as purified water. in vanilla fallout you can only get this purified water by traveling to that specific settlement and taking it out of the workshop yourself. so 700 water production in sanctuary makes 500-600 purified water, you need to physically go to sanctuary yourself to pick the water up. this mod removes that necessity. i can use the workshop in hangman's alley to get all purified water that is connected to the supply line network.

i havent unlocked the airport settlement in my current playthrough but i was unable to place garden plots in the mechanist's lair so some settlements may not get the option. mechanist's lair is inside a building though so that's probably the reasoning behind it not getting garden plots.

Also, wouldn't setting up a couple of traders or something autosell your excess water and generate caps without any walking about?

yeah. i believe i said that in my original post. i have all 5 (or is it 6?) vendors in hangman's alley and i invested 500 caps into their stores with the cap collector perk so each of them has 800-1000 caps and i usually just sell the water straight to them. or take it up the road to diamond city for shipments (arturo sells some great stuff and mryna can sell 400 steel sometimes)

No, I mean, if you set up traders, won't they auto generate caps by selling excess water? I saw a guy on youtube build a farm at Taffington and he set up like two or three traders and said that now they will generate caps by selling the water. I havent yet tested it myself, cause materials are scarce now that DC got raided by a mob of Rust Devils and all the vendors killed.

Unless he meant that now he can sell it straight to them...which...well..let me go rewatch it

What's the carry weight for settlers? Could you not load them to with purified water and send them to another settlement?

as far as i know your vendors don't "sell" anything to anyone but you. they generate caps and put them into the workshop. for each store in the settlement, the level of the store (did you craft the 1st 2nd or 3rd), and every unemployed settler your stores generate caps. if they are selling my water i havent seen the profits.
