Hole in the Wall quest, trying to not get bit
Spoilers ahead if you haven't played this.

I need those Vault tec labcoats in Curie's room for my max intelligence build. Furthermore, I'm doing a max hp build until I can withstand taking a direct hit from a missile launcher.

molerat disease -10hp permantly, while it seems like a small sacrifice to make to not be a total prick and let the boy die (to be honest I don't even like Austin, his tour really sucked) I think whats going to happen is I'm going to "attempt" to kill all the molerats without being hit once.

It's something about the principle of losing 10hp permanently even if I get to level 70 that just drives me crazy.

So here's my plan off attack, obviously no followers since I read they give u the disease if they get bit as well. I got a good 70 fragmines in reserve. I mean hypothetically, couldn't I trigger the molerats and have them chase me into some fragmines, assuming I too survive the blast (Power Armor would help with this). Or do you think what's more likely to happen is the molerats will reburrow underground and spawn right in my immediate vicinity to bite me again as soon as I'm done sprinting? Need some help here. Figure I'll do 1 section of molerats at a time, find a bed, save, and go back until I clear out the entire area without getting bit.

Might level up some more until my weapons can 1 shot kill the hardest molerats and have some more VAT points to work with.

Any ideas would be appreciated. I'm doing this on survival, so saving a bajillion times after each and every molerat kill is NOT AN OPTION.

I used a furious plasma flamer and lots of jet for this mission, worked out pretty well. Berry mentats are useful too, for when they hide around corners

Feels good to be a filthy cheater. I have 200 copies of that serum~

Or. Just take the cure for yourself. If you want those hitpoints, you might have to make some sacrifices, or rather Austin will have to make them. And it isn't evil if they don't know you found the cure and used it on yourself.

Naw Im gonna do it even if I have to try and retry the mission 100x, I think I'm going to like I said clear out one section of mole rats at a time, and sleep in a bed before I move on to the next section of molerats.

I prefer the long and hard road over the short and easy road, thats what I call getting some mileage out of a $60 rpg. Now I can grind out a few levels and store some perk points, think I should do 50% better crits and critical banker, or do you think invest some points in agility for more VATS? I like the jet idea, I can brew up all sorts of chems because I have 3 perk points in chemist and they actually last some time and intend on getting the 4th perk in that when I get to level 39.

BTW I don't have any plasma weapons, I'm level 32 (I think). Maybe I should bust out the Cryolator finally? Looking for ideas here.

Personally i like the combat shotgun the best when dealing with enemies like molerats, but not getting hit? that might be a bit harder.
I guess quicksave is your friend :)

I used the spray n pray that you can buy from Cricket and a lot of quicksaveas.

I did it in Survival with a lot of trial and error (leave the companions behind and also the legendary Protectron -- if he gets attacked you also get the disease like wtf) and stood in corners with a combat shotty. :profgenki:

You still get the disease even if your companion or the protectron you hack gets hit, so I felt absolutely no guilt about granting myself the serum via the console. If the game has to cheat in order to force an unavoidable moral choice on you, then imho it's fair game to cheat as well.

You always get bit, you have to for the quest story decisions.

Agreed -- I played this perfectly in my latest play-through, avoiding all mole-rats through VATS, but I hadn't researched the quest to learn that the damned NPC protectron could give YOU the disease if activated and bit -- that sealed it for me, hello console :P

yea everyone gets bit on this mission, I still have the disease on my character, its only -10 HP loss, no big deal.

I tried to no hit this area too. It's miserable. There's a few places you can jump up to the give you good views of the room, and may keep you from the Molerats initial resurface attack and sometimes their bites. They also trigger at certain points, and usually spawn in areas that surround the trigger point.

it's not a disease it's a merit badge.

Jet, and the Spray'n Pray. Make quick work of them before they even get out of the ground.
