Anyways, thanks. I'll take a look at that mod
Anyway, it's not too hard to get achievements back with the mod. But you need F4SE script extender, which is a bit lacking in instructions suitable for people who aren't computer savvy. But like in Skyrim for Fallout 3, the script extender should eventually enable some of the most useful mods.
Also, any save game marked [M] might not allow achievements even after the mod is installed. Best to choose an earlier save game and continue from that.
Fortunately, I installed the FO4 Script extender and the mod to enable achievements.
For the convenience of others, I will provide relevant links.

Whenever I load up a non-tagged save and then save, the new save has the "[M]" tag even with the achievement mod. I tried to get the "Old Guns" quest achievement but, despite completing the quest, the achievement didn't unlock. What gives?
You need to use the F4SE loader to have the mod work.
Make a shortcut to the F4SE loader and use that. Then you need the mod to be a plugin in the F4SE folder which will simply be putting the mod's zipped content in the 'data' folder in the Fallout 4 directory. The F4SE stuff will go in the base directory. the 'src' folder from the F4SE stuff is not needed. You can discard that unless you want to write script.
It's called making a shortcut to the F4SE loader and renaming the shortcut as Fallout 4 and replacing the icon of the shortcut with the Fallout 4 icon found in the steam directory.
The answer is 'nope'.

Blame capitalism because that's the actual cause via Microsoft throwing a hissy fit over mods for games on the Xbox.
Don't want consolol's getting easy gamerscore discounts, I bet. Consolol's continue to bring down the glorious PC master race.
Oh well, guess it isn't that big of a deal. It's just a real shame that Bethesda would pull such a move in the first place.
If I learned anything about Microsoft before this whole mess, it was that their name must be describing something of theirs...
