Managing ESP mod files manually in 1.5 - help
I have only six ESP mod files, and I am hoping that I can bypass FO4 stating, when attempting to load my current character, that there are items "missing" and do I wish to continue.

Everything was fine thru 1.4 - ESPs placed under Data folder and plugins.txt made "read-only".

I must be missing something, as I've removed the "read-only", placed the "*" in front of each ESP, and let FO4 launcher control everything. Yet I still get that popup, and then use MOD in main menu to enable and select launch order. I already had a Beth account.

I noticed that FO4 places my ESP files into the DLClist.txt file, and apparently doesn't touch plugins.txt any longer.

BTW, I have no DLCs installed.

So basically, any suggestions on how to have the ESP files placed and into which files so that FO4 will simply launch, correctly, with the mods already enabled, thus bypassing the popup?

TIA - have gotten some great tips from other discussions here.

Are you certian that the mods are finished downloading? The few mods that I can't find on nexus took FOREVER to finish downloading in the game mod menu. Also, every time you go into the mod menu in game, you have to re enable the mods. The act of opening that menu seems to be what disables them. I exited and restarted the game 5 or 6 times since then without re entering the ingame mod menu and all those mods are still active.

All mods are from nexus. I manually placed them under the Data folder.

So perhaps the key is to ignore the popup?

no that doesn't work sadly. I fixed that issue by first deselected very mod from NMM. Going into the in game mod menu and enabling what few mods I wanted from there. Then after a couple of minutes to make sure they were downloaded I exited to the main menu. When I tried to load a saved game, I got the missing esm message. then I exited to the desktop and launched FO4 via NMM.

I assume that the major issue is I'm not using NMM. I see no need to do so with only a handful of esp mods.

What makes no sense is that the popup is stating a specific mod is missing, but it isn't.

So friggin' frustrating simply attempting to have a smooth startup ...

Make sure the Plugins.txt file list your .esp files. You can find it at c:\users\<user>\appdata\local\fallout4 also add an * to the start of the name in the file... this denotes that it's enabled.

Once I added my .esp files back in this file and added the * they worked again in game with no warning that they were missing.

Plugins.txt:

# This file is used by Fallout4 to keep track of your downloaded content.
# Please do not modify this file.
*somemodnamehere.esp

Thanks. Been doing that all along ... :)

What's happened is that one specific esp file is being removed by FO4 - most likely at launch -- then I get the popup about it being missing. So enable it (it's there in Data folder). Run the game. I assume it would add it to plugins.txt, as it's been added to DLClist.txt.

However looking at plugins.txt after game; nope, not there.

I've checked spelling, etc, etc ...

My issue appears to be the mod itself. While it runs if manually enabled with the new MOD interface feature, there's something amiss witthin the file itself relating to being automatically enabled by FO4. It's a very early mod, and apparently the author isn't around any longer.

Interestingly, if it's inserted by me into plugins.txt with the -*-, the file before it will also not get recongizied.

So, for how, will just have to enable it each time I fire up FO4.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Really appreciate it.
