When you're Hungry or Thirsty, just Eat and Drink until you're not.
If you had a Number quantifying exactly how many "Food Points" you needed, you'd do the same thing anyway.
Go to your Stats screen and press Q.
Actually - we *do* need a number of 'hunger points' gauge along with an indication of how much a given food satisfies hunger.
Open pipboy, eat, close pipboy, look at HUD, open pipboy, eat something else, close pipboy, look at hud, open pipbpy . . .
Satiation provided by Food is based on its Caps Value. You can read this in Survival's "Help" entry in the menu.
If you're annoyed by how much Purified Water you need; Start making Refreshing Beverages with your water instead. (They're considerably more useful anyway.)
Couple things wrong with this:
1. There are text pop-ups that tell you if you have "Moved Down" a level of Hunger/Thirst. So you don't need to open, close, or sift through the Pipboy that much.
2. You can Hotkey Food, So that's even less Pipboy action. May as well throw your favorite Meat where your Stimpacks used to be. Even has the added benefit of cutting down on your Fluid needs while healing a substantial amount. All without any points put into Medic.
3. You *can* get a feel of how much each Level of Hunger needs if you just pay attention. Example a serving of Radstag will instantly Cure Peckishness. iirc A Deathclaw or Mirelurk Queen steak can instantly cure moderate to major hunger.
