I don't have a main base. For me each one functions as a fort all over the map. I can go to each one to get water, food, drop off and pick up supplies, see a doctor, and sleep safely.

But if we are talking about which one I use most frequently, probably Hangman's Ally or Castle because they are in the middle of the map. With Castle I can conveniently swim everywhere which is faster than running through Boston.

Hangman's Alley is always my main base. It's spitting distance from Diamond CIty, and it is the settlement closest to the center of the map. It is highly defensible, and actually has a decent amount of space if you build up and wall to wall with flooring. You can line up your second floor with the back stairs if you try.

Going for a new game as soon as some mods will be fully compatible/updated. In that case I'll probably go for the Castle again, simply storywise. Hangman's Alley or Bunker Hill are nice places to stop by as well, but the Castle screams 'main base' all over the Commonwealth.

I am planning on building them all up. Right now my main base is Fort Sanctuary, I have cleared Starlight and Sunshine too. At Starlight, I will build a city (cause its the only place where you can reasonably build an arena) and Sunshine will be converted into Fort Sunshine.

So far I've also unlocked Tenpines Bluff, which will be made into an Outpost Tenpines (different in scale to Forts) and Oberland Station, or, in my universe, Oberland Outpost.

What I have right now though, is Fort Sanctuary and Oberland Outpost. The latter mostly unfinished.

As far as main base goes, I am unsure. It kind of depends. I plan on building a place up to its full potential, then moving all the materials somewhere else, do the same there, move on, and so on and so forth. So in terms of resources, I don't plan on having them scattered (Also not planning on wasting Perks on supply lines)

In terms of storing Power Armor, I think my Power Armor will be in Diamond City, simply because it is the middle of the whole Commonwealth. But each Fort/Outpost will have a commander with their own suit of Power Armor. Unfortuntely (and beats me why that's the case) you are only allowed to apply Minutemen paintjob on the T45 version, which unfortuntely will be the choice of armor for my Commanders. Preston has already got partial suit for himself. I think I will leave him in charge of Fort Sanctuary, once I move out of there.

Basically, the idea is that under my command, the Minutemen will secure the whole Commonwealth. It will be a bit immersion breaking to have your stupid settlers cry for help with raiders and supermutants, all the while living in a reinforced concrete bunker with cannons, rocket and laser batteries, and guards in power armor, but oh well. Maybe I will hook myself up with a mod that removes the radiant quest.

MrJokee, the radiant quests have been seriously reduced in frequency, and in survival mode, you no longer HAVE to go. You might win an unattended defense quest in survival, based on your settlement defense rating.

As for Arenas, Spectacle Island is perfect for a HUGE arena. I also like Finch Farms, under the freeway. Abernathy is also good, if you put foundations down in the lower part you can make a good sized arena. Egret Tours has room for a medium sized one in the parking lot out front. I've built a small arena at Sommerville Place too. Starlight isn't the only good place for an arena.

Red Rocket. It is not ideal for the new survival mode though; it is a really cool place in my opinion. I might shift to a place that is close to everything; somewhere in the middle or close to the main points of interest/large settlements.

You don't need such a thing if you have the perk that connects all settlements though.

I'm starting a new game on Survival when the mods have adapted more, and my goal is to play a game *without* any bases at all. Just travelling around the map, only picking up what I will use (limit to a couple of weapons at one time and only ammo for those) and truly "survive" in the wasteland. If I find a workshop and want to upgrade a weapon, I'll search for those components, upgrade it, and move on. Will definately use a camping sort of mod for this though.

Egret Tours? I don't even know that place. Now I am intrigues to find it. What I meant when I said the only place, I meant due to its central location in the top part of Commonwealth, an arena in Starlight City will bring tourism, and business from all around. It is true that there are other places, like Finch Farm, like Abernethy Farm, that have enough of reasonably flat space to build an arena on, but in terms of roleplaying and oversaturation of Commonwealth with arenas, the only logical choice is Starlight.

As for the Island, I have yet to get there, in my 350+ hours. Is there a mission that leads there, or do I just pick up and go on an adventure to claim an island?

Either way though, the island would need a ferry to make it a viable place for a Commonwealth Arena. If it had one, it would be a great capital city I imagine.

after getting supply lines set up between settlements you could use homeplate in diamond city as your main base as there are plenty of shops to sell items to and it is a very central location you do not have to defend and no one can nick your power armour and other goodies.

Anyone got decent tips for moving all junk from Red Rocket to Hangman's alley in survival mode? Don't have 6 charisma.

Egret Tours is just south of the Coast Guard Pier and just north of Cutler Bend. It is a crucial link in my supply chain, connecting my main north-south route to the southern east-west route which leads to Jamaica Plain and The Castle. You should have a high charisma for the best possible outcome when taking the place, unless you want to fight a crazy lady.

The island has no quest to direct you there, but there is an unmarked mini-quest once you get there, and also the luck bobblehead. Be prepared for a nasty fight.

the perk that allows you to tame beasties, forgot its name, could come in handy on the island.
